Hi

I am very new to vintage watch buying, but have always wanted a vintage Breitling. I have been looking for ages, but they were either obviously "not right" (even to me) or too expensive.

Now I have found a watch that I really like the look of but I cannot find any info on it.

It is described as:

1945 Gold filled - with signed 17 Jewel movement
Case model ref. number: B7158, Case ref. number: B809555. (the is no "B" in the numbers stamped on the outside of the back case)



I would really appreciate any help/advice/comments

The only thing I can say is that I have never seen such a Breitling. Maybe vintage or roffensian or bnewbie have?

I'm not much good for vintage.

It's from Argentina I believe so I'm gonna bet the odds on it being authentic are ~5%. Will need to wait for the experts though. I'm just flat out guessing.

Don't like the caseback, especially font for numbers, and serial would be 1956, which looks wrong.

Don't like the movement engraving and don't recognise the model. If it's from South America then I wouldn't go near it with a 10 foot pole.

Don't take that as gospel a I only spent a couple of minutes but will try to find more time later.

It's a dude that does sell out of South America... he always seems to wear the same color jacket when taking the wrist shot for the watch... everything looks fabricated to me also...

Firstly many thanks for the response

I agree with all said (eventhough I am far from an expert). I usually trust my gut feeling, but I really like the look so I wanted it to be "good"

So I think it is back to the searching.

Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can have my dream vintage Breitling without having to mortgage my house?

The key is patience... I haven't started collecting for a long time, but I can tell you... if you find something you like, post the link and there are many many knowledgeable people that can help you... whether it's a vintage piece or something contemporary... and the more you look at it, your eyes start to get trained... I never buy one unless I get the blessing of the moderators here...

There are some great experts here who will be happy to help. None of us are infallible - I demonstrate that often enough (though not always as often as accused ), but collectively you will get some very good advice.

Is there any particular year / timeframe that you are looking for, or just something that takes your fancy? Also, should we assume that you are only looking for regular watches rather than chronographs or is either acceptable?

I am looking for something from about 1920's to 1950's (maybe even 1960's)
I am looking for regular watches or chronographs
I am not really worried about the collectability etc, but rather something that I like - I want to wear the watch daily if possible

You are likely looking mid 40s - 50s simply because that's when the vast majority of watches in your range were made - 20s and 30s are much rarer and very few watches were made by Breitling in the war years as they were producing flight instruments.
