I'm going with $4000 but might be on the conservative side.

Wow!

Haven't seen one of these in years.

It's a tough market to be selling one of these, but the unique pieces still seem to be holding their value fairly well.

I could be cheesy and say $4,001 but let's play along a little more and say $4,250.

I actually think your guess is pretty good Paul.

Some dude on ebay recently had an AVI for a BIN of 12,400... USD... a bit optimistic...

but I call $4500... :D

So my learning session for the day... these AVIs... what relation are they to the the oh-so-I-want-badly 765 Copilot? Did these come out before or after the 765 CPs?

The original AVI's came out prior to the Copilots. The AVI was ref 765 and the Copilot was 765CP. They could be had with either a polished or painted bezel. I think 1965 was the cutoff year between AVI and Copilot. I had a 1965 AVI and a 1965 Copilot at the same time. I have another Copilot coming by Fedex today so I'll post a pic when I get it.

And just to add to Paul's information, the story actually goes back to the 1940s when reference 765 first appeared, although not named the AVI at that point.

Here's the Copilot I just received a few minutes ago. It's a ref 7650 and the serial number dates it to 1969. It needs a mainspring so I'll probably sent it to Craig for a service. It's really in great shape for being 40 years old and has the rare yachting dial and bezel.

Had a little insight that that one was coming, but it really does look good Paul, although I am a little disappointed that you didn't align the bezel for taking the photo

I see that our digital AVI is already over $3,500 - it's going to have to take a break for a few days, but at this rate it looks like it could be north of $5,000.

This watch was listed recently with a Buy It Now for $12,000.00. If I remember correctly, the opening bid was $9,000.00 with no bidders.

It's not mint, the hands are wrong; who knows how much it will sell for? The link below shows an AVI with the proper hands:

Hands are an easy (and cheap) problem to fix relative to the watch though - and as we kknow hands were routinely replaced by Breitling with what was available.

It's going to be interesting.

The original hands are unique and may be difficult to source.

Oh I agree that the hands are likely to take some time to source - didn't mean to imply that you could pick them up 'anywhere' - but a digital AVI is a very, very rare piece so I think that it's worth the risk for the watch.

You might be closer than any of us - $4,050 with 4 days to go!

Would totally love to have one in my collection... but for some reason I like the 765CP better...

Its now at 7100 $ , but this is a very, very, very cheap price for such a rarity. Its the first modell from 1953 with the smal beaded becel. You can find from this first edition only 2 or 3 watches in 10 years worldwite. But Breitling collectors dont understand the real value of the vintage watches. If it was a Rolex, it would cost much more as 200.000,- $ . Look the simple Rolex Paul Newman with a simple calibre Valjoux 72, not a hight-grade Venus 178, it cost between 50.000,- and 100. 000,- $ , but its not rare, you can buy more as 20 only in one day.
