Hi guys,

First post. Just wondering what you thought of this one on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 3DWatching

wondering what 217012 stands for, I've seen other 808's with that No.

No serial No. visible.

Needs a good clean at least, but could it be a good buy potentially?

Any thoughts etc. very much appreciated.

Cheers.

Welcome to BreitlingSource!

217012 is the swiss patent number awarded in 1940 for the chronomat slide rule.

This looks like a nice example of a Venus 175 powered 808. The 808 was introduced in 1958, but this one is the second generation (after about 1962) - you can tell by the arrow at 12 o'clock. However it still has the beaded bezel so it's going to be in the 1962 - 1966 window, a shot of the inside of the caseback with a serial number would be nice.

I don't see anything wrong with this one at all - it's a nice example, though as you note a cleaning / service needs to be factored in.

Thanks Roffensian,

he has posted the caseback photo.

What do you think would be a reasonable price in US$ given an ebay sale. ie: no warranty/ refund etc.

Thanks again, great help!

Cheers.

Serial number dates it to 1962 - so that's no problem, early 2nd generation.

I'm away from home this week so don't have access to my price guides, so don't take this as gospel as I am working off the top of my head. His Buy It Now price would seem reasonable, if not spectacular for a piece in good condition. In this case with the cosmetic work and service that's required then you need to discount that and if he'll accept an offer in the $1,300 - $1,400 range then I think you are getting a deal. Anything above $1,500 and you are rolling the dice a little around how much you need to spend on it.
