but i am still confused and think this point about different slide rules

is not a question, if there existes different ones between 816 and 1806.

The question is perhabs, if there generelly existe different ones

plane / flat and curved (also both in 816 for example).

For shure is the plane/flat one

and does a curved one existe or is it just a visual illusion from
a often used crystal type?

We will find out together!

At the moment i think it is a visual illusion, but don't know.

Stephan

Yes. The 1806 is definitely curved/ angled.
Your images would suggest the 816 is too.
It is not the glass causing distortion.

Do you think there were variations??

definatly the different "domed" plexis have different effect,
so that even a flat slide rule seems to be a little bid curved.

I really don't know, but if we think about, that Breitling decided
also to put the Venus 178 in the big case (816) and they did this
very early (we see this, when we check the serial numbers from
authentic 816 watches), so this could be a assumption:

816

flat slide rules (based on the earlyer existing ones from 806)

1806

curved

816-72 (only early serial number, but much later with the valjoux 72
assembled and using the early cases from 812)

also curved

only a assumption

it needs to check a lot of 816 and perhabs also the earlyer 1806

I have been informed that the picture I posted is of a 0819 with flat slide rule from 1969. All black bezel and Venus 178.

If a cosmonaute shouldn't the dial be different?

Sorry. Mis informed. The watch I posted was from this website...

http://nickhacko.blogspot.co.uk/2009/08 ... h.html?m=1

Interestingly the flat slide rule is mentioned.

For some enlighting: There are definitely two Versions. I have two NOS x809 scalerings, please see pics. And they seem not to be interchangeable.

Stephan: The scalering of my 816-72 is a curved one.

The model/ref that started the post is the early 0816 from 1968 with Venus 178.

The other confirmed model/ref with 'flat' is a 0819 from 1969 with Venus 178.
