not that I've seen, Paul; neither SS nor 18k - would love both.

Yeah, I probably should have bought that one. Seller offered it for $2500. Funny, I mentioned that fact to someone else and it quickly vanished. Oh well, guess I had my chance. :|

wasn't me, Paul. Though this is what the DHL guy brought yesterday, a collector friend from Germany had found it for me in a small store in Nürnberg ;)
afaik the largest nono-chrono Breitling of the early 50s. diameter is 37.5mm

You see now... Here's a point I'd like to make although made many times before this too.

Look at your piece Fred.

Now look at the monstrocities released now.

Man what happened... :(

well, Breitling and subdued elegance are long gone.
and if I listen to their marketing blah, probably never to return.

they always did elegant AND rugged/professional, the 18k 769s and the Navitimers, the Duographs and 765s, TopTime 810s and Co-Pilot AVIs, the Unitimes and SuperOceans of the 50s - icons that had character and style; sometimes Breitling was even daring and highly innovative, like those groundbreaking pieces of the late 60s.

this, I'm afraid, has been laid to rest with Willy Breitling.

Hello everyone,

I saw this post and thought I could answer the question of the disappearing chronomat. It was my fault I caused Vintage to feel bad. My apology. I purchased it and just received it today. Like WatchFred my impression on seeing it in person was, WOW! Pictures doesn't do this watch justus.

Here's my impression: This one will have to get a servicing, cleaning and band before any wrist time but over all it looks like it's all original and in good condition. I have to agree with WatchFred, it does ware a lot larger. The dial's sunburst pattern give a four quadrant shadow making the light reflect differently on two of the sides depending on the angle of your wrist. Very playful touch. The dauphine (sword) hands just adds to the elegance. I have seen other 2508-25 with replacement hands and they never looked right to me. The slide rule ring moves like a Chronomat of this age but I only have played with one and do not currently own one myself (hopefully one day). Although around 50-60 years old it could be easily a daily watch today. Its lack of the chronograph is helpful with the purpose of focusing on the slide-rule but again you loose what we love in the original Chronomats. It's large enough for modern ware, thin and elegant. To bad more of them are not around.
