You can let it run right down now (you really don't want to keep a tight mainspring either), but then just leave it be until it's serviced.

:yeahthat
and, btw, pulling the crown would not help much, neither the V72 nor the Venus 178 have a hacking function :poke: (sorry Roff, such a rare occasion to be able to do that  )

Okay, today I went to my Jeweler, James and Sons, who sells Rolex and they had their repairperson take the back off of this Navitimer(they had the necessary tools) I have and the on the movement it says 'Bow', 17 Jewels Unadjusted Swiss and says Breitling Watch Corp. On the inside of the caseback it says Breitling Watch Corp and has the number...#896885. I know I still need to post pictures and that is my next step.....according to a list of Serial No.# posted on this site the watch would of been made in 1957.....
Have a great day and take it easy.....Leo

I have looked up the movement and it is a Valjoux 72 Movement in this watch. I have taken pictures of the inside of the case and movement(done at the jewelers so they are not the best) but I do not have the lenses to do close up shots. I will take pictures of the Watch Face and dial as well as the back of the watch tonite and see if I can post them tomorrow!!!
Take it easy.....Leo

Wow, the news is getting even better! Looks like yours is amongst those with 806 inscribed on the caseback with V72 movements. Didn't know that the last of the V72 ones with 806 inscribed were made till 1957! From Kurt's article yours should be these

Quote:
Quoting Kurt Broendum: In late1955 the Valjoux 72 movement was replaced with Venus 178. However - going into the Venus 178 era, a very little amount of Valjoux 72 AOPA’s was produced with the 806 reference number on the case back, and some Venus 178’s was produced with matt silver plated hands.

Also the BOW to WOG transition happend somewhere in 1957, you have the BOW mark, so all sounds right exactly synching with Kurts research, awesome!

Quote:
Quoting Kurt Broendum: Sometime during 1957, Breitling Watch Corp. ceased operation and the importation and distribution of Breitling watches was passed to the Wakmann Watch Corporation, which used "WOG" as its US import code.

Thereafter, and until the company closed in 1979, Breitlings brought to the US were imported, distributed, and serviced by the Wakmann company, for which movements in watches they imported were marked "WOG."

Try putting your camera in macro mode and take pics outdoors if is a compact camera, takes some practice to get watch pics right:)!

well you might be an iPhone user ? The camera takes surprisingly acceptable movement shots, even at quite low light.

post the pics anyway, please, promise not to criticize, takes some practice.

Once you upload to Photobucket, you need to copy the links of the pictures here, bit confusing but you will get there. Uploading directly here will involve resizing the pics to 200kb and 1100x1100 pix ht/wdth using a resizing tool (MS Paint in Windows 7 has a resizing feature)..

not so confusing, really.

photobucket lets you embed pics at your desired resolution, better for Admin too, as this reduces storage
needs.

it really is quite easy to use, just click on the "IMG code" link on photobucket, it turns yellow and copies automatically, then paste it in your post at the desired location, you can repeat this for multiple pics.
