Hi guys, wondering what my next vintage Breitling would be...maybe another 806 which offcourse would be the most popular option but not sure if would get bored with two same looking watches with subtle differences esp since I am also a regular wearer of vintage? Or a 785 or a vintage SuperOcean, confused:)..What would you do?

Pretty obvious, at least to me . . . . .

That's a beauty Kurt, that's a 809-36, correct?

Most probably not, would be quite surprised if a Valjoux 7736 had moved up in Kurt´s desirability list ?

Thanks Kurt! Are the 809-36 versions rare or the rarest? Did go through your article where you mention that a few Cosmanutes were of the Valjoux 36 kind.

Rare, but I wouldn't touch them, IMO Valjoux 72 / Venus 178, are the real deal for 806 / 809, nothing else.

Thanks Kurt, any reason why you wouldn't touch the Valjoux version on Cosmonautes though you think is rare? Is it because the v-36 movement isn't popular or is because unlike the v-72 on 806's being on the first version Navitimers, the v-36 wasn't in the first Cosmonautes to be as desireable?

734, 769, 809, 2005... All black faces and in that order. For me, the 734 is the first true modern pilot's watch.

Here is a thread about it, Rene
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30424

part of the "Breitling 8" line, launched in the late 30s together w/ the waterproof version, the 765, can not find info which was earlier.

Agree w/ the OP that it is among the nicer VintageLings, currently at The Dalles Spa

I forgot about that one , Very Nice !!

So what makes this a 'first true modern pilot watch' ?, after that statement I expected at least a sliderule or other means of calculation ?

it was positioned as a "pilot watch" by Breitling and apparently very rigorously tested regarding chrono reliability, vibrations and temperature (or so they claim). The sliderule was launched w/ the Chronomat quite soon afterwards, but as an engineers tool originally (as were the Mimo and the Juvenia) and only a decade later that mythical pilot apparently had the idea to combine the two segments ......
