btw, a very nice 2111 was sold on the bay tonight (BIN at a reasonable price and I did not see it fast enough)

This one?

That was mine and I knew it would sell fast at the buy-it-now price. Just had it completely rebuilt.

Guys, learning about these, what's the progression of these (saw 1806 and 1809's mentioned and also different caliber movements?) and any good link to read up about them? Looks pretty huge though, were they waterproof?

cruvon, what "these", as this thread is about very different 70s watches ?

have a look at the Lester/Fred list, most big case are on there and most of the other 70s watches, including movements:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35656&hilit=lester#p261196

I posted a family shot of the 70s big case watches and their latest offspring here if you need some pics:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=35301&hilit=cast

and some history links about the cal 11/12 and the race for the first automatic chrono here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=35301&hilit=cast#p258605

Most of these watches are called "waterproof", some even groundbreakingly like the SuperOcean, but none of us would test that now, would we ?

They are huge watches by the late 60s standards, quite normal today.
