actually-the 88-28 does show up in a breitling book as a real number...

any other opinions? estimated date (I suspect 1948-52?)

also what language is in the dial? what is mer?

Never said it didn't, just that I didn't recognise it off the top of my head - I haven't yet memorised every reference number.

MER is French abbreviation of Mercredi (Wednesday). It's showing the month of August (Aout)

Serial number should be on the inside of the caseback which will allow us to date it accurately. My guess is early 1950s - 1952 or later, if its serial number is earlier then I guarantee that it is a frankenwatch.

88/28 is a correct reference automatic - another Richter error.

I have also found some reference examples that have the script Breitling on the back, but still not convinced about that because at least one of the reference pieces is from an unreliable source.

We really need to see inside of the caseback and the movement (should be a Felsa 693) to tell more.

You may have missed this in Roff's reply.

Take it to a watchmaker and ask them to do it.
