Hello there,

I have an interesting watch that I have recently aquired.  It is a late 60's Breitling Top Time 2002.  I like the watch, it has the original V7730 movement that works great, had a unique grey dial with gold hands and markers, but the dial or the ring around the outer rim of the dial is strange.  I don't know if it is the dial itself that is just worn, or if it is a ring or spacer that is missing or worn.  I am not that familiar with these watches, but know that there are supposed to be number on the outer area of the dial or trim ring.  Who could I get to remedy this and get it back into factory condition (or a condition at least consistent with the aging of the watch)?   I am including a pic of the watch for reference..

Thanks!

It's just worn down. Difficult to find. Is the case stainless or GP?

the tachy insert is damaged, but there's little to do, no spares are available.
you may want to know this watch did not leave the factory combining this gold index dial and gold hands in an SS case. still a nice, wearable watch.

Is there no one out there who refinishes dials and inserts?

Don't do that under any circumstances. Would ruin the watch.

Ok, I hear what you are saying. The owner had a COA on the watch, and the movement is original and a V7730. Do you think it was redialed or special order?

dial and hands are from a GP or solid gold small round Top Time.

Minute hand does not look quite right and it is most likely missing a movement retaining ring as the dial is not mounted as it should be. Does the dial move slightly when you wind her up and then turn the crown anticlockwise slightly ?

Yes it does a bit. Who can help me with my issues? I don't want to redo the dial or markers, but the rest should be dealt with..

there seems no reasonable way to deal with these issues ?
you might find a correct minute hands, but a freind of mine has been searching for a correct retaining ring for some time; seems almost impossible.
to get the incorrect gold index dial and golden hands right for the steel case.... will require a huge amount of luck.
wear it and enjoy it as it is seems to be the only reasonable way.

Well, I tried to get the dial to move with turning the crown, etc. And it doesn't budge. Maybe the ring is a little warped? I am going to wear this one, so I will just be on the lookout for the trim ring and enjoy as is.. If anyone knows a good vintage Breitling service person, I would love to speak with them. My guess is that there are SEVERAL on thus forum.. Thanks for all of the input so far. It's a nice little watch with a lot of character. I am upgrading the strap next week...
