Greetings!

It has been a long time since I posted here. I went through nearly all of the TransOcean models, eventually selling or trading all of them away. My only remaining Breitling is my special little 2114. It has been a slow process to rationalize my collection to a reasonable size, but I anticipate a nice windfall coming soon and decided to treat myself to a 765 AVI. Might I ask the forum's opinions of this specimen?

https://www.chrono24.com/en/breitling/c ... 451509.htm

I cannot find any issues other than perhaps replacement main hands. I am, however, new to the 765 series and would appreciate your input.

TIA

Daniel

service dial with SL instead of Tritium

and slightly incorrect fonts, prints , dial layout. But I only see that because I have been lookinf at these for years and I doubt anyone else sees it or cares

it wouldnt surprise me if the hands were SL as well ? (but they do not have that typical SL 'sheen')

and :

IMO the AVI's all had a stainless steel bezel
the CP's had a black aluminium bezel

of course there's debate as always but I am pretty sure they, and this one, originally had a steel bezel

service dial without doubt - and most probably Rene is correct re the bezel, though people have claimed transitional pieces in '65

hands lume is clearly not original, color is off, though a minor and correctable issue.

Many thanks! I knew René, Fred, and the rest of you would know what to look for! Now I understand what constitutes a service dial. :D

So this example is more correct then, yes?

https://www.chrono24.com/en/breitling/1 ... 460454.htm

At least it is identified as a CP. It is still the smaller 41mm case, right?

The bezel seems wrong: Did they ever come that thick and with a red printed triangle at 12?

all 765 AVI/CP's should be 41mm , yes

its 'more' correct yes.. except the chrono hand is not correct , hard to see but its too short

the bezel came in a few versions , red, alu and lume triangle . they all seem to be correct but please dont ask me which is correct for which year as I havent been able to figure that out (yet)

only the ref. 7650 from '69 onwards are larger.
exoticwatches piece looks correct and is very nice, agree the chrono second seems slightly shorter.

Many thanks René and Fred!

Do you think a correct, longer sweep seconds chrono hand can be obtained nowadays?

checked on my AVI/CP, one of them does have a slightly shorter chrono second hand too ....
assume there are less than a handful of people who would even notice that difference and hands are rarer then hen's teeth.
the exitocwatches piece is really quite close to "as good as it gets", would not worry about the hand.

did not look at the profile pic, that truly needs to be answered.

only explanation I can come up with is that it has a totally incorrect plexi that prevents the bezel to be pushed down and fitted correctly

Do you think the Ancienne piece was simply relumed, or did Breitling actually manufacture a service dial for these? Im curious because I wondered if B would manufacture a service dial for such a rare piece ... In any event I asked about the originality of the lume and here's what they said :

Dear Sir,

Please find attached the pictures you ask for. We believe that the hands are service and the watch has been relumed. For us seems to be luminova. It brigths on the dark.
Let us know if you need any more information.

SIncerely,

That was part of my question on this watch. Sorry that I was not clear enough the first time.

I have found 7650 CPs that are very nice, but I really want the smallest case size possible. My wrist is small (165mm), so even 42mm is slightly wide. 40mm is right where I find my limit for most watches.

Can anyone comment on how the 765 wears in contrast to the 7650?

And since I brought up the 7650, what is up with "1765" on the caseback of this?
