Hi all,

What would be your thoughts on this all-black 809?
Pictures are not from me (chrono24) but I already saw this watch a couple of times (yesterday at the latest).
From my understanding of this model, I have the feeling that hands are not correct with the signature B Breitling Geneve.
Also, it does not have the wide bezel that I think it should have for such mark II hour/minute hands...

What are your thoughts?

relumed dial and some/most (all?) hands incorrect and/or replaced

Ive been going back to the watch as well but the badly relume job puts m eoff everytime
they changed the numbers on the dial to much , they're a different shape from original

Thank you for all feedback.
For the production year, I don't remember the serial number...
Anyway, the redone dial is unacceptable for me.
I am a little bit concerned because I spent some times looking at the watch and I found the dial a little bit glossy, which bothered me, but I did not find that it has been relumed...:(
But now that you say so it is clear to me...
Thank you for pointing this out!
I still need to train my eyes!

Fred - for my furthered education, what's wrong with the hands? Is the sweep supposed to be "AVI -style" ?

Yes
and the running seconds hand should be thinner , and I have doubts about the minute and hour hand as well
and as far as I know the hour and minute subdial counter hands should look the same, which they dont to me

but I need to sit down quietly and compare side by side to make 100% sure (sunday is not good for me to do this with kids running wild)

Looking at the timeline from Kurt, this mark II type of h/m hands should be found on cosmonaute produced only during 62. Then in 1963 mark III hands seemed to appear (similar to 806 with white subdials).
And also it seems that all 809 from 62 should have the wide bezel and this is not the case here.

But I have a question : is it possible to switch from wide bezel to narrow bezel?
Probably easier to change hands on an a narrow bezel 809 from 63+...

Interesting training anyway to dissect such piece ☺

Kurt's timeline is without a doubt an excellent guide to dissecting these pieces. However, I think he would agree ( as he told me so) that you should not be a slave to it - changes were introduced over time and it was not like the factory showed up on January 1 and did things in a different way than they did on Dec 31. So don't look for 100% absolutes where there aren't any.

Absolutely correct buddman , you need to look at the watch as a whole

Ive just had a good look at all the hands of the watch that Nicolas posted

IMO they are all incorrect and not from an all black 809 , possibly from a 806 ?
