I have received a Breitling Premier Ser#5790XX from my father in-laws estate, I believe that he brought it back to the US after WWII. It is marked as a 787. I've taken it to a couple of local watch makers to find about refurbishment. Of them 2 had told me that that it was junk and not worth my trouble, one told me 800.00 to repair, or the owner would buy it for parts (offered 200.00). The watch runs (sometimes, it kept time till one of the jewelers opened it). What I need to know is whats the true story on these watches? I would really like to have it brought to as new condition for me to wear on a daily basis. I've wanted a Breitling for years, but I have a TAG budget. Just asking for advice....
thanks
Bob

you'd help us to say something really relevant by posting pictures of your watch to evaluate condition, the 787 is a bit small for today's tastes but a nice watch with an excellent crown wheel chrono movement - very far from scrap.

Pm member chronodeco if you need a reliable and fair watchmaker to restore it, he comes highly recommended by many here; $800 seems far above the realistic range.

here's a recent restoration of a 787 for member Rick:

I'll send pictures shortly. My cell takes crappy closeup pics. I'll have my daughter shoot a few for me.

Works indeed, and looks very nice. Movement shots would be nice, but let's wait until Craig (chronodeco) gets his hands on it for that. He'll make it a very wearable watch and will charge you a very fair price. I suspect with a new crystal that dial will look nicely aged but very readable. For reference it dates to 1945.

Son is right, imgur is great; but if you choose "huge" or "large" thumbnail u get a more usable size ;)
you can also edit your post and add "h" or "l" before the .jpg

as Roff says, correct and very nice piece, as far from scrap as imaginable; should restore nicely.

pm Craig as member chronodeco or get his contact details from http://www.chronodeco.com,
he'll give you pricing info, but it will clearly be far below that quote you had.
