Yeah, i must admit i love the SO too. I have a hunch they're pretty pricey. I am fond of this one; that dial is something else even though I'm guessing it's just a Valjoux 7734.

it is, like all 60s/70s Datora, but why "only " ? It is an excellent movement, reliable and sturdy, not too many alternatives actually.

Yeah, for some reason I've never loved the 7730 series. Mind you I'm hardly an expert! But i had the 7733 in a polymer case Sprint and it's timing wasn't great and it stopped occasionally even after servicing. It never seemed to have the quality of the Venus 178 in my old Chronomat. Is that the general impression or is it just me?

Well if you don't like the 7730s think of them as 188s - it's the same thing!

Valjoux quality control wasn't generally as rigorous as Venus so pieces had wider tolerances and therefore less consistency in performance, but still fundamentally strong movements.

Oh, and another vote for the SuperOcean.

I like those caliber 15s Nova... the Superocean is nice but I've been quietly on the hunt on and off for some time for a nice condition caliber 15... they're somewhat hard to find.
