Looking at possibly getting a Chronomatic ref 1806, purchased in the late 60's. It was last serviced in the early 90's. I know nothing about servicing/repairing the vintage watches, so any advice is appreciated. Specifically, can dials be replaced or restored? And does BUSA still do this or do you send it somewhere else? What other issues would be of concern? Thanks guys.

Very simple process

1) PM chronodeco and arrange to send him the watch
2) Wait
3) When he tells you the cost ask whether he made a mistake because you can't believe that it's that cheap
4) Pay him
5) Receive watch
6) Post here about the amazing job that he did



Seriously, chronodeco does an amazing job, and BUSA don't service these any more. The dial can be replaced / restored but consider that the value may be affected - a clean may be all that's needed.

The areas to be concerned with with these watches are excessive scratching or damaged crystal (no replacements available), worn backside where you can hardly read the engraving, and excessive wear on the outer black bezel ring. If you're considering the one on TZ it looks pretty decent although I'd be interested in negotiating the price a bit since the dial shows it's age (darkening) and the bezel ring shows wear. Sometimes the dials and bezels do pop up on ebay.

Parts for these doesn't seem to be a problem in the UK.

BUK serviced mine and fitted a new 'crystal' and a new bezel. They cleaned the dial and slide rule and left those with their original patina. The 'crystal' was only £40.

That's good news. The last nos crystal I had I sold on ebay to someone in the UK for over $300.
