Since I was a kid I have love the chronograph style, particularly the Daytona. My first "real" watch was a Rolex oyster perpertual and I soon found that it didn't keep time and was all hype, but I still loved the Daytona. When I "grew up" I took a cruise to the caymans and had saved money to buy a proper watch. I had my sites set on a Tag Carrera but as I looked I fell in love with a Breitling model (Don't remember which). There was a slight difference in price so I bought the Tag and I have regretted it ever since.
My business took a plunge and I have sold both the Tag and the rolex but I am now able to get slightly back into collecting and I want my first watch to be a Breitling. So I need some help. I have a habit of just jumping in and getting what I want but I have to say I am tired of wearing this Iron Man Timex, but I am on a short budget and I found this on Ebay and wanted advice on it.
Brand: Breitling
Serial# 555633
Make: Swiss
Dial: Breitling Re-finished
Case: Breitling Stainless Steel
Movement: Breitling Chronograph Manual Wind Venus 170
Diameter 34 mm

I love the looks of the watch. Not sure how to upload pictures but the pictures I have seen have Breitling on the Face, Breitling and serial # on the back and Breitling on the movement.

Questions:
1-How high should i bid? I could go as high as $500-$600 maybe $70
2-Is the watch I should be looking at or should i be saving more money to buy a better Breitling.

I am sorry for asking such remedial questions but I love watches and want to get more educated before spending more money.

Welcome to the site.
Would you happen to know the model number?
If you want to upload pictures go to the ebay auction. Enlarge the pic. Right mouse click to "save as" on your computer. In the message posting screen on Breitlingsource scroll down until you see"choose file". Select the picture from your computer and hit submit.

Hi

I haven't seen the pictures, but, with your description, I assume it's a Vintage watch, right ?
First of all, you have to see if the diameter, isn't too small for you wrist.
By exemple, the Rolex DateJust is 36mm, and the Breitling you're describing is 34 ;)

I think you should find the Breitling you wanted to buy in Caymans, except if you prefer the vintage one ;)

Definitely vintage - from the first part of the 40s from the description so moving this to the right section.

You can find a number of vintage pieces in that range, newer pieces will be a bit tougher.

Usually 500 to 1000 will only limit your choices to some small face dress pieces or a Top Time two register. If we're talking 806s, 809s, Chronomatics, etc, then it will be more. But don't lose hope! Some of my pieces had been acquired at a bargain... Some luck involved as well. Good luck with the hunt.

Mt first 765CP Copilot I bought for $150 running. There are still deals to be found but you have to look for them.
