Hello all,
I just received my latest acquisition yesterday…. It is a Louis Vuitton President Classeur Monogram briefcase.

Now some of you may think I am crazy to have so many briefcases in my collection….. but I absolutely love them.

The epitome of briefcases is the LOUIS VUITTON PRESIDENT.

There is an even larger LOUIS VUITTON PRESIDENT GRANDE but that is getting ridiculous!

The Louis Vuitton President is the epitome of style and class. YES – it is getting a bit dated (being a hard case item)…. But it really is a classic.

I must say that in comparison to my Louis Vuitton Diplomate briefcase…… I ACTUALLY PREFER the Diplomate….. this is for a number of reasons:-
1) the diplomate is a much more usable size (the president is getting a bit big and grand – being 1” larger in all areas than the diplomate).
2) the diplomate has a pen holder which sadly is missing from the monogram version….. the taiga version does also have this pen holder.
3) my diplomate is in taiga leather….. the LV monogram is a bit showy! …. But it is perfect for a collector like me.
4) the president is too heavy! Being made of wood it is heavy…. The diplomate is no light weight either….. but the president is very heavy as it is larger than the diplomate.

Personally I love my President…. It is everything I thought it would be.

I only issue I have …. (now this is embarrassing)…. IT STINKS! The previous owner was a heavy smoker…. Whilst there is no burn marks…. It smells like an ashtray! The condition of the item is 8.5 out of 10….. but the smell is 5/10.

Any advice on this? I only got it yesterday…. I have not even wiped it down…. So hoping I can do something about this…..

I bought this briefcase on ebay…. I paid a very very fair price….. I think the Global Financial Crisis is the reason…. This briefcase is about US$4500- new…. I paid US$1051- THAT IS EXCELLENT BUYING FOR SUCH A MINTER…..

:uplaugh:

That's funny!

I am having a laptop bag custom made for me for about what Archie paid - and to me it's absolutely no contest between hand made, personlized craftsmanship and second hand brand name. I'll post some pictures when it arrives - probably late May, just so that you can all see the quality of the work and the tooling.

Ah yes but it will not have the BRAND NAME that Archie so loves  How very shallow

Its a nice example, great price and superbly crafted- I'm pretty sure these are relatively low production/mostly hand-made pieces and I know the quality control at LV is extremely high and based on years of tradition as master-crafters in luggage and leather goods so just because its a big brand doesn't mean there is any real difference in quality between some local hand-made supplier and a big-brand supplier in this (brief)case. :D . The only issue for me is that in my city there are blatently fake examples of the monogram case are held by badly dressed Nigerians so I would probably stick with a Damier pattern (Damier graphite canvas maybe?) or a solid colour.

I'm with you on this one Rick. I really like the TUMI case (if its the hard shelled example i'm thinking of)- a real type of case Bond would carry!

Not really a fan of the hard shell briefcases, but LV does have excellent craftsmenship on their older briefcases.
