I currently have a 07 BMW X5, and looking at getting a sedan this time around. I have it down to either the Lexus LS460L or Mercedes S 350. The Mercedes looks allot nicer, but due to the price I would be limited to the six cylinder version, with the Lexus I can get the 8 cylinder version with all the options, and it is less problematic. |

I suppose I did show which side I am leaning towards ![]() Thing is, this is a business necessity for me, ever since my career took a managerial turn last year I have been dressing differently, even looking into more formal wear watches rather than my usual sport craving. The Mercedes I feel is more of a formal car, but I would be getting less I feel. |

Personally out of those two I'd go Merc. Although Lexus make excellent cars, I've never been a fan of the image. And I've been a BIG fan of German cars (BMW's in my case) for years, so I'm going to be biased! ![]() To me it's like deciding between a Big Ingenieur (just for you Altair ![]() Oh and no offense intended to anyone who has a Lexus here. They are great cars, but I'm just a German car snob! ![]() |

I'm going to take the opposite view of Driver8! Lexus all and every day. I've had big Mercs and IMO they fall far short in terms of build quality, reliabilty and dealer service is nothing to shout about. The days when Merc's were built by engineers are long gone since the bean counters have got their oar in. They've sat on their fat Germanic ass*s for too long relying on past reputation to keep the sales going...they've fallen behind! I'm done with German stuff - BMW so-so, a Porsche that trashed it's engine, buggy Audi and rusting ,unreliable Mercs. Lexus - there's a munufacturer that's got its act together. I've clocked up 70k miles without the slightest hint of a problem (LS 430) - not even a duff bulb. Superbly put together (beats any German car) and feels unbreakable. Quiet, fast, refined and astonishingly frugal given the size of engine. Lexus? The "thinking mans" choice I'd suggest ![]() David |

Unfortunately as I found out, a nice car does not necessarily a nice girlfriend make. My girlfriend now doesn't even own a car, but she's a much nicer person to be around! Anyway, sorry Altair - I won't hijack your thread. |

It would be interesting to start a poll on this. See where the majority of the members stand. Just a thought. Cheers |

I'm a professional mechanic and i love both cars i personally drive a Toyota but i also have my car for 10 years and counting so now what you have to ask is if your a new car or used and how long are you planning to keep it the lexus will last alot longer with much less problems than the benz but if the benz is new and your only gonna have it for 4 or less years then no worries go for the benz but if your gonna keep it for longer your wallet and bank account are not going to be happy. Hope this helps sorry for my grammer they don't teach propper grammer in a certified technician school. |

There are a lot of Mercedes I'd take over the Lexus, but not the S350. The LS460 is a great car, between the two I'd go for the LS |

I went to see both again today, I prefer the Benz, allot. But the Lexus is the logical choice, the technology just feels allot more mature, and it does have an excellent track record, and the Benz just doesn't have as much soul as the S class of the 80s and 90s had. I am definitely not going for the auto park feature, seems not worth the trouble, and I would rather put the radar and parking system money into a watch anyway ![]() Now what color to get, definitely not the white or black, too ordinary. Either the metallic grey or dark blue. |

After some extensive research and allot of comparing I finally decided on the long version, all options sans the auto park (expensive and useless) , Sable Mica Metallic exterior and dark beige interior. Striking combo! http://www.lexus.com.my/images/models/L ... ORS_08.jpg Should be here next week!!! Very excited!! |
