I was at a boxing show not long ago and got talking to a bloke who noticed my watch. He showed me his Non Date Sub and said it was for sale really cheap. I laughed thinking he was messing around but he was serious, I asked how much and he said make me an offer!! I took a look at it in the interval and wrote down the serial numbers (I was at the show as I am an Inspector with the British Boxing Board of Control) I had a paper clip in my folder and as you know the drilled holes makes it easy to remove the strap. The guy started to get a little edgy and asked what I was doing so I explained that I was going to phone Rolex lost and stolen register to enquire about the watch before making him an offer. He had already given me his name and telephone number and we parted company. I looked for the serial numbers the following Monday but had miss palced them!! I found them today in my jacket that I had put in the boot of my car and phoned Rolex, Gave them all my details and also the watch details and they said they would call me back. 10 minutes later my phone goes and a really polite gentleman explained that he was from Rolex and that the watch was in fact stolen in an ARMED ROBBERY in Nottingham in 2004!!!!! I nearly fell of my bloody chair I gave him the mans name and phone number that he gave me and he said he would pass the details onto the police. I am still a little shook up to be honest, apparently 35 watches were stolen in the raid and he had received a call from a women in Cardiff not long ago with the serial number of one of the other watches that was taken. I will keep you all posted. |

Well I guess it's understandable that these pieces come to the market - that's why they are stolen after all. It's always a shock when it comes close to home though. I guess it'll be interesting to know whether the person who wanted to sell it to you was aware. I always make sure that my insurance company has records of all my watch serial numbers - just in case. |
