Post subject: | Help me out |
Hello, I know this may be a personal question for some of you, but what is your career? The reason why I am asking is because I am at the point in my life where I need to decide what to study in college, then pursue my career. Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed about owning a Ling (maybe more), and I would like a career where I would be able to afford one. I greatly appreciate all the responces. Thanks, NaviNut |

I'll answer your question in a second, but in terms of what kind of career will allow you to afford a Breitling - any career can do that. It all comes down to how much you want to spend and how much of your income you are able (and prepared) to save and for what length of time. I now own my own management consulting firm focused on large scale business transformation projects - corporate restructuring, business integrations, etc. My background is in project management in the finance, investments and IT industries, although I started my career in the banking industry - regular retail and then high end private. I wouldn't say that those careers / industries are guaranteed to make it easy for you to afford multiple Breitlings - I've worked hard and been lucky at times along the way. |

See Screen Name. That said, do not even think of Medicine unless you have wanted nothing else in your entire life, and are willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING in your life to achieve it. There are A LOT easier ways to make money (Like large scale, high end business restructuring consulting -- for example ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I started out as an Accountant but decided not to go on for my CPA and got my MBA instead. I now work as an Expense Analyst for the #1 drug store in the US. I picked up my first Breitling as a gift to myself for finishing my MBA and now I just picked up my second after a year or so of saving. Like both Roff and Bonedoc said, you can probably afford one with any profession. Just make sure you enjoy what you decide on doing, it's no fun sitting on at a desk doing something you don't find enjoyable. You'll just sit there and look at the clock all day. |

I agree anyone can buy a Breitling, it just depends on how bad you want one. It is also true to do what you enjoy. I tried a "behind the desk" job because my degrees allotted me to. But I really loved cooking, and as such have changed my career as a chef. I enjoy what I do and I will one day (soon) own Breitlngs. Bear in mind I just became aware of Breitlings a month ago and have since started saving. I'm about 25% to my goal! |

Navinut, you already have what it takes to succeed in any career that you choose. According to your profile you have ~69 posts to this site, evidently, without even owning a Breitling watch. That says a lot about you. It says that you desire and seek out knowledge on something that you want badly. You also, from this current posting, are seeking out information from those whom you perceive as having walked where you want to some day. These two traits my friend coupled with hard work will take you far. As Roff said, any career will buy you a Breitling. Some will make it much easier. But as Bonedoc said, and this is the most important thing, find that thing that you love. All the Breitlings in the world will not make you happy if you go to a job erery day that you hate. Take your passion and find a career that suits it. Couple that career with your lust for knowledge and with the counsel of those who have gone before and you can't lose. All my best wishes, Family Practice Doctor |

I'd also like to know what I want to be when I grow up ![]() ![]() I also agree with what everyone before me has said, it is vitally important to find a career than you enjoy and which provides you with some form of work-life balance. You spend so much time at work that if you don't enjoy it it becomes a labour and can disrupt other areas of your life. To answer your question I'm a financial analyst in Corporate Banking and have also dabbled in project management. I enjoy what I do mostly but am looking for the next natural progression as well. Good luck and be patient (which can be difficult ![]() ![]() |

I'm a Chemical Engineer with a Master degree in Polymer Science. I work for a biotech company and am a production and process manager. Said a zillion times already, but the important thing is that you like what you do. If you do you will manage everything else with a smile. |

I architect, design & manage build of computer systems. Specifically for an Investment Bank (trading, pricing, risk management systems). I get paid to play and it's a lot of fun (when we're not working our way out of a financial meltdown). Before you say it - no, we're not one of the troubled banks. As a sideline I write software and give it away free (large collection of Windows based apps/utilities - PM me for details)... |
