Was not sure where to post this but off topic seemed like a safe bet. Anyway, I dont know if anybody is familiat with Steampunk.Basicly it is a subgenre of fiction where electricity was never invented, now there is nothing new here. Many authors played with the concept of history changing based on the invenstion of key technologies. However with this subgenre the need for invenions forces mankind to drive onward with Victorian era technologies incorpiated into modern era devices. For instance in the Steakpunk subgenre, you would find a steam powered laptop, or a fully mechanical jet with analogue instruments. This gave rise to some beutifull artwork and some very interesting images. I was never really into Steampunk that much, but i recentely found out about another deriviative, Clockpunk! Wiki excerpt: "It has been occasionally used to refer to a subgenre of speculative fiction which is similar to steampunk, but deviates in its technology. As with steampunk, it portrays advanced technology based on pre-modern designs, but rather than the steam power of the Industrial Age, the technology used is based on springs and clockwork, in the vein of Jay Lake's novel, Mainspring,[14] and The Whitechapel Gods by S M Peters." This piqued my interest so I began googling for some info, man some you just cant overestimate people's imaginations. Some of this stuff looks amazing. the steampunk link took me back to the 70's, can anyone remember the cover on the Emmerson, Lake & Palmer LP, (the big black round one opposed to the little shiney ones we use now). 'Tarcus'. I'm going to put it on,- no, I haven't got anything to play it on anymore. Anyway it brought back a memory or or two. |

Rodney Matthews (the artist who created the picture in this link of Altair's - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vv5SDGCiuso/S ... tthews.jpg) is an absolutely incredible artist. Whether you go in for fantasy/sci-fi kind of art or not is another thing altogether, but there is no denying that this guy can paint!
