Hi guyz,

The girlfriend and I are thinking to go to Malta for 10 days either in May or June for a 10 day break.

Can anyone recommend any hotels as looking on the net can't quite compete with firsthand experience?

I'm not a big fan of the beach so we need somewhere with a good pool! :D

Looking for somewhere maybe in the region of up to £100 a night.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Andrew

I went to Malta with the Rugby Club almost 3 years ago and the word on the street was (then) that the only place with anything approaching non-hotel nightlife was St Julian's. If you will be going out of a night then (unless it has changed) then maybe bear that in mind?

Our hotel was in St Julian's and probably not what you're after (and I can't remember what it was called).

We went in May and the weather was cracking :)

Tripadvisor.com should have some good information with reviews and pictures.

Look for common issues that numerous people complain about or praise. Learn to read the user (you can see other reviews they've done) and not necessarily their reviews e.g. if they've only ever stayed at Travelodges then they are bound to be wowed by the Four Seasons, whether it be a good stay or bad stay by Four Seasons standards, and vice versa.

:) Stayed at the Fortina in Sliema a few years ago, if you get a sea view it will overlook the Grand Harbour and Valletta. You will find that Sliema and Valletta are at the hub of the island. There is also the Phoenicia in Valletta, which used to be one of the the main hotels. If you dont hire a car, Valletta is the hub for all the bus services. The last time I was in Malta they were still using the same buses that they had in 1956. Malta is a rocky island, so there are very few beaches and most large hotels have swimming pools.

Hope you enjoy your stay there.

Thanks for the tips guyz I'll check them out. As we're just going for 10 days I don't mind paying around £100 a night anything more would be pushing it a bit. After purchasing the Skyland, SA, laptop and a new Digital SLR today I need to try and tighten the reigns a wee bit!! :(
