Okay so this one isn’t BMW’s fault. It’s mostly some of the neanderthals that drive BMWs who are to blame. As someone who owns a BMW, I know that not all Bimmer drivers are presumptuous, egotistical, no-blinker sociopaths. However, that is the image BMW drivers are often saddled with, sometimes unjustly. Even surveys profile BMW drivers in a certain way.

Obviously, BMW doesn’t have anything to do with that. The folks in Munich have no control over who buys their cars and what they do in them. So I’m not blaming BMW, rather discussing something that bothers me about BMW ownership. If someone asks me what car I drive, and I say BMW, they always give me a look, like “Wow, look out for Mister Fancy over here, I bet he doesn’t use his blinker.” Which isn’t fair. I use my blinker every single time, people.

Strange isn't it.............how the ownership of a particular car can infuence others perceptions of what sort of person drives that car. We have 2 BMWS, I have driven BMWs for about 10 years. I regard myself as a safe and responsible driver. A dick head is a dick head whatever sort of car he/she drives. WHAT HACKS ME OFF IS ALL THOSE IDIOTS WHO DRIVE IN THE BMW LANE THEREBY SLOWING ME UP ON MY WAY DOWN THE MOTORWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! :nana: :nana:

Personally I find Audi drivers tend to be 10 times worse than BMW drivers these days for not using their indicators. And for tailgating too.

Of course, I'm not stereotyping ALL Audi drivers here but there certainly seems to be a high percentage of "I-own-the-road" Audi-types near where I live! (And of course I say this as a dyed-in-the-wool BMW driver! )

Not using indicators is a real pet hate of mine, and it drives me completely insane. (OCD alert! )

On a related BMW point, I was absolutely shocked at the price of an oil service on my current 5. Just the oil, nothing else. My local main dealer quoted me....£450. FOR A DAMN OIL CHANGE! Fortunately I know the owner of a local garage who I have used for years : their price for an oil change, brake fluid change and a full vehicle check? £120.

I though the whole point of the latest "conditional servicing" on BMWs was to REDUCE cost! Apparently not! I always used to religiously use main dealers to keep the service book all nicely stamped up with main dealer stamps, but it appears to make next to no difference when you come to trade it in, so why anyone would still use main dealers for simple stuff like an oil chance is utterly beyond me.

I've said it before - I absolutely love the cars, but I despise the dealerships and the main-dealer service costs with a passion.

£450 for an oil change ??? I'm paying $99 for 750Li at my local BMW dealer.

When I bought my X3 I got the 60,000 mile service pack thrown in so those cost don't hurt at the moment. Once that's expired I'm off to the local independent. He can plug in the module just well as any BMW spanner monkey.

Totally agree. Mine didn't come with the service pack, so as far as I'm concerned anything not covered by the warranty gest done by my mate's independent garage instead.

Totally agree with what Driver8 says about Audi drivers (exclusions apply in all cases of course) and they seem to have taken over from the BMW drivers of the past and I generally find them to be poor drivers in many respects.

I have had BMWs for years too and always use indicators. Yes I may drive fast on occasion but most of the time am happy at or around the limit (always at or under the limit in urban areas).

As far as servicing is concerned I did use the main stealer when I bought new about ten years ago but stopped that nonsense now and having been insulted with a paltry trade in offer I now but second hand and use my local garage or a local specialist for complex things. I am on a BMW forum and it's quite common to see that owners get a discount from BMW dealers when getting some servicing carried out - if you don't ask, you don't get, as they say.

I have a BMW 760Li - I always signal, and I don't overly speed - seems whenever I do, something ends up needing to be fixed after.
