![]() ![]() "Crap" is the right word. And I'm afraid before it's over, we're all going to smell as though we fell into a big pile of it. ![]() fingers and hope we weather it somehow. I'm afraid new watches are out of the question for the foreseeable future. ![]() ![]() Steve |

From a business perspective I haven't been impacted too much - the biggest impact in Canada has been on manufacturing which isn't a large part of my client base. Obviously been suffering along with everyone else as far as the markets are concerned, but I guess I'm a little more pragmatic - I'm not planning to cash out my investments any time soon, so it's really only a paper loss to me, and means that this year's tax deductible retirement investment limit may actually buy a few more stocks than if they were higher. Ironically as a commodity driven economy the Canadian market has been suffering from the weak price of oil in recent weeks - Toronto exchange is down over 20% in the last 3 months, but Ontario gas prices went up 13 cents a litre (50 cents a gallon) overnight last week. |

I understand that prices are higher elsewhere but they have gone up a dollar and some change in the past 12 months here. Guess we're just not used to it. People are selling SUV's. trucks, motorhomes and desert toys... it's pretty crazy ![]() |

Petrol in the UK is currently at about £1.10 - it's come down a bit recently. |

The irony here is that Canadian markets have been insulated somewhat from the turmoil because of oil. Canada is estimated to have greater reserves than Saudi Arabia - albeit harder to get at because they are in oil sands. We have fairly high gas taxes, but they're reasonably stable and yet our gas prices have gone from around $1.00 to $1.30 in no time. Of course now with the drop in oil prices in recent weeks the market has lost some of the support and is now suffering with everyone else, and yet consumers still aren't seeing the pump relief. |
