Does anyone else shave with a double edge or straight razor?

I recently picked up and Edwin Jagger DE89lbl and started to learn how to shave with it. I have been getting the best shaves of my life since. There was a harsh learning curve though.

No, electric only. Used to use double blades but I find my Braun cordless shaver as good a shave as any blade I have ever experienced. I don't have heavy stubble though, so not sure how this might affect others here.

Double edge safety razor has been the greatest decision I have ever made. I have used one for about 2 years now. With the DE I use a badger brush and shaving soap. In the shower before I shave I use a face wash that is designed to raise the hair (purchased for $5 in local grocery store), after that I re wet my face and use a pre shave gel. I use the soap and brush and shave with the grain. I reapply soap with brush and then shave against the grain. After that I use cold water to close my pores and then use a post shave lotion. I use the Merkur Futur and have never looked back. Plus saving on the cost of blades is amazing. I don't find if I throw the blade out after 3 shaves I am not to worried about it. They are cheap enough to replace as much as you like.

There is a learning curve that's for sure. They are very different to use compared to your 5 blade systems. It is all about the angle and pressure

I use an electric Braun too. Too a couple months to get used to it but I get a closer shave with that then I ever did with a straight razor.

I have the thick Italian stubs, I shave everyday first with Braun electric then with Gillette mach5 I think it is the 5blade vibrating razor, and it's smooth as glass

Braun all the way baby, it's fast and does a great job. The base cleans and charges, how could you go wrong.

how did i miss this thread?? beyondman i picked up the same DE razor about 3 months ago and absolutely LOVE it. there was a bit of a leraning curve for me as i was so use to shaving with cartidge razors for the past 15 years.

the EJ 89 with a feather blade is better than a mach 5 proglide. it takes a bit longer to shave but the process is so much more enjoyable.

I've been traditional wet shaving for about three years now. I have three double-edged safety razors and a bunch of blades, soaps, brushes and all the other paraphernalia. I love it although will admit there was a sharp learning curve with lots of blood and even a few gashes. Worth it though. Cheaper than cartridge shaving and better for your skin. One day I'll even look to master the cut throat.
