Hey folks!

Once again, I have been lucky enough to attend the 24h race at the Nürburgring. And what a race it was! The fist part was defined by tire speculation, given a dry track conflicting with the weather bulletin according to which there should have been rain. The air was electric in the pits for hours on end, everybody was nervous. And then, it finally broke out. A rainstorm so hefty thee red flag had to eventually come out. It did, and provided 8 hours of uncertainty about the race going on or not. We made use of that time to fetch some sleep, but most of the teams stayed but in the pits and saw their patience stretched out to the breaking point. Mercifully, the race could be restarted as the day broke and the rain became lighter. Some of the track had been flooded and the support staff had worked all night to keep the evacuation pipes free and the water in them flowing. As the green flag was woven, it was an all new race, eventually won by a Merc.

And in order to share some of all that with the fine Petrolheads I know some of you are, here come the pics!

T'is indeed. That car (R8 LMS Ultra #14) has a friend of mine among the drivers, which is why it's present in many of the pictures.

Awesome! It must have been cool to be in the pit. At first glance I thought it was a TT RS but I see now. Really cool.

That's a Z4 GT3 with the Long Distance package (basically just additional headlights, a beefed up power train and bigger brakes). Bmw is pushing them in recent years because on the one hand it's a native GT3 class car as opposed to the M3 GT2 which was initially aimed at the ALMS back when they still threw GT2 spec cars around in there and needs to be individually adapted to comply with GT3 specs. On the other hand, they probably also do so because the similar looking Z4 can be bought at the dealers in the years to come, whereas the current M3 is to be replaced by an F30 styled successor any day now.

The things are pretty beasts with 4.4ish L V8s and a great balance on the road. Surprisingly, they were miles better than the - eventually victorious - Mercs when the track was wet/very wet.

They also made a Le Mans spec version after the ACO rules in the beginning of this year. It's called GTE, loosely based on the GT3 car and looks a bit like turned over bathtub...

Great pics.

It's an awesome track to drive.

Bloody scary in the wet.
