Time for me to bore you with a few pictures ;-)

Taking advantage of the nearly one week holiday here in China, wessa's household decided that it was TIME to get out off Beijing for a few days.
The one week holiday is a bit of a combination of Easter and the Chinese Tomb Sweeping or cleaning holidays. Cleaning the graves and paying respect to dead person is an important part of remembering past relatives, somewhat similar to the Christian All Souls' Day.
The wessa clan decided that a destination with famous graves would best fit the occasion. As such the destination was Xian, one of the oldest cities, one of the Ancient Capitals of China and of course home to the famous Terracotta Army, located about 1000km south-west off Beijing.

Here are just a few of the 300 or so pictures taken over the three days, some of course with the obligatory wrist shots :=)

We just managed to beat the morning traffic and get to Beijing West Railway Station in the nick of TIME for the 10AM High Speed train to Xian.

Image

In no TIME at all the train reached speeds of just under 300 KM/h

Image

Despite the high speed, the train trip took 5 long hours. Playing with my Chronomat seemed like the best way to kill some of that TIME.

Image

wessa girls did not seem to mind, enjoying their favourite past TIME, browsing the internet and playing games.

Image

Now for some Xian landmarks and attractions.
First up is the Bell Tower located in the middle of a big roundabout in the centre of the city

Image

and the same at night

Image

The Drum Tower, located a couple of hundred yards from the Bell Tower

Image

and the City Wall, surrounding the old part of the city

Image

Remains of an old Banpo Village which was inhabited between 4500-3750 BC.
Now that is a long TIME ago.

Image

I did promise you some graves. This one has been dead a long TIME, around 6000 years.

Image

Last but not least, the highlight of the trip, the Terracotta Army buried with the Emperor Qin Shi Huang around 210 BC and discovered by a farmer back in 1973 as he was digging a hole in the ground for a well.
They call him the "Lucky Farmer"

Image

As they say, "everywhere is nice but home is the best".
Not to waste any TIME we took the fastest means of transport back home.

Image

Hope you enjoyed the trip back in TIME.

Awesome trip report! I've only seen the "fake" made-for-tourists terracotta warriors. Looking forward to seeing the real army one day! Thanks for sharing!

I can see you’re a true Breitling Man. Took a couple of Lings on holidays with you. :lingsrock:

Hope you had enough room in your baggage to fit that toothbrush!

Everything in China is so fast. 293km/h is a great way to get around and that would have definitely shortened the trip time. Glad to see China Railways use the correct case sensitive units for km/h as well. Surprising around the world where this is abused (KM/H).

Way to go Wes.

Great photos and sounds like a great trip. As someone who spends 3 1/2 hours a day on trains I am very jealous of the leg room on that one!

Great trip and pics. Thanks for sharing. I found that whole exhibit absolutely fascinating when I was there. Hope to go again if they ever get around to excavating that emperors tomb because the legend has it that his actual tomb is supposed to be incredible. It must be to have 6000 clay soldiers guarding it!
