I know that we have some sartorially elegant members so thought I would ask your opinions. I have a couple of things coming up this year that are going to require me to suit up a little more than usual - the book coming out and also doing some speaking engagements in a few US cities (may be a chance to grab dinner with some US members??) so am looking to add some ties to my wardrobe. Any preferences on brands of ties that you like - I want something that is going to tie nicely and still fall as though it's not made of cardboard. I love the idea of a few genuine 7 fold ties that don't have a lining but not sure that I want to drop $250+ per tie (in fact I'm sure that I don't want to) so looking for recommendations from those of you that have to suit up more regularly. |

I'm a fan of Hermes but probably more than you want to spend. |

Another vote for Zegna although hardly bargain shopping. Good site WatchFred. Brook's brothers for more 'affordable' quality ties. Let me know if you're in St. Louis Roff re dinner. |

It's basically one a month from May (although two in September and none in October). And I now seem to have derailed my own thread ![]() |

Hey Roff! Can I send you a tie? It was certainly not hugely expensive, but it has a mojo about it. I wore it doing a pitch to a massive advertising agency, and they have been customers ever since. I wore it to my godsons christening. He's turning into a fine young man with outstanding manners. And I wore it to say goodbye to a missed friend. That was a huge happy celebration. The way he wanted it. Now it's laying on my tie hanger, and unlikely to be used anytime soon. So PM me your address if you'd like a little bit of fabric luck on your trip. Davey |

Davey Davey, I would rather that you kept it as a reminder of times when business was harder, when the good guidance that you provided to your godson was still ahead of you, and as of friends known that have made us better people. It's a hugely generous offer and I am deeply touched, but I can't help thinking that one day down the road you'll look at that tie - whether it has been worn again or not, and smile, happy that it's there. |

Wow - Incredibly unselfish gesture followed by an amazing reply. As for ties, I too like Brooks Brothers. They tie well and priced so I don't go on suicide watch when spill on one. |

I like Brooks Brother's ties also but I do not like their narrow ties; I prefer their wider ties. They make a high quality tie but I do not believe they have a 7 fold tie; well not that I've seen. I also love their dress shirts; high quality and not overly expensive. |
