A very strange but true sorrowful story.

My good neighbour across the road was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus last year and has steadily declined over the last 12 months. He gave me a key to collect his mail and pass on too the solicitor when he goes etc.

Anyway, I'd not seen him for a week or so and last night I swung in to the drive and wondered over to see how he was.

I noticed a bit of mail on his doormat in the porch and thought perhaps he had gone in to hospital for chemo or maybe not............

Popped home picked up the keys and went back. I let myself in and shouted his name (Graham), I heard a faint sound from upstairs and rushed up to find the poor guy collapsed by the side of his bed face down, I was devastated at his condition, he was nothing more than skin and bone, barely alive.

I told him I was going to call for an ambulance but he initially didn't want me too, it was clear he had been there for a few days and he had unplugged his phone.

I called for the ambulance and they quickly arrived and took him to hospital.

Now, the strange bit!

In my office at home, on top of my shelving is an old ex-jewellers Breitling sign. At about 11:30pm last night, not overly asleep I heard something fall. This morning I found the G had dropped off.

At 11:30pm'ish last night, Graham sadly passed away.............

Stef

So sorry to hear about your neighbour Stef.

As for the G dropping, what can anyone say. Logic says that it's just a coincidence, but there is way more in this world than we will ever understand.

I hope that Graham has found peace and is no longer suffering.

They say truth is stranger than fiction sometimes. May he rest in peace.

You're a good neighbor BTW.

Thanks guys. I'm just finishing the last bit of washing his bedding over there, I won't go in to specifics but he was in a bit of a state over there and I couldn't leave the bedding and the bathroom in the mess it was in for his relatives (they're not local) and I want to preserve his dignity as best I can.

You're a top guy Stef.

Spooky story with the Breitling "G", and an incredibly sad situation with your neighbour. Life can be cruel at times. Hope he's now at peace.

Sorry to hear about your neighbour. I'm glad to see there are still people out there who look out for their neighbours and the local community.

Cancer is a terrible disease isn't it?

Sad news Stef,

Good for you for being a friend. I already knew you as a nice guy.

RIP Graham.

As for being a good neighbour......Hmmm I'm not so sure. I've heard your cars...

How are you doing? Are you OK

Davey

Stef,

I was sorry to read about your friend and touched by your act of kindness in your efforts to "clean up" what I know you had to do. But I was just as shocked to read the subject matter, you see, I too was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus on August 16th. I had never even heard of it. I know what your friend has gone through with the rapid weight loss, weakness and tiredness. He was unable to do very much for himself. I know he would have been very appreciative of what you've done. God bless.

Carl

Carl,

Thanks for your words of kindness and I'm truly sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I lost another good friend to the same thing a couple of years ago. It seems it is unfortunately becoming a common form of the dreaded cancer.

Kindest regards.

Stef
