I was said to see this in the news... First the loss of Hillary a few yrs ago, and now Armstrong.

Will be a while I think until we get another truly inspiring 'first' again (Mars???)

I will never offer that night. Just me and my Dad up late watching a grainy image on a black and white TV. It was special on several levels.

That was my exact same thought, even though so many years have gone by. But I remember precisely, as if it was yesterday, the room, the black and white TV, a Telefunken, and my parents watching anxiously at a shade going down a ladder. Even though I had been awakened, I had kept silent for once, sensing, more than really understanding, the importance of the moment. It was 4:56 am.

Funny how certain moments in a man's life stay engraved for ever in his memory.

I remember a lot of the space program coverage, but particularly Armstrong on the moon and the first manned orbit of the moon, Apollo 8 on Christmas 1968. Also, as an english-speaking Midwestern U.S. kid, I thought Telefunken was the coolest name.
