I was pretty astounded by the ruling - serious damages and a decision that may have long term implications for Samsung as a whole.

Apple wasn't kidding, they were willing to go "thermonuclear"...

let us put this in perspective, Samung has about 70 billion in annual telecom sales, last quarter profits were about 4.5 bln.

long term implications might in the end be much more serious for the tier two contenders like Huawei and HTC, would be surprised if Apple would not go after them too.

And a hearing to enjoin sales in US follows soon which would have an effect much greater than $1Bil. Before a S. Korean court split the baby and found they both had pirated against each other. Ironically , Samsung is Apple's largest components supplier.

I'm reading and hearing more about suppliers looking at offering their own products, and their customers getting angry about it. A lot of uneasy relationships out there. An injunction would certainly alter smartphone market share short term, but the Apple 5 will probably determine more about Apple's future than this. The last figures I saw showed Android phones continuing to outsell Apple. There will be more innovation, which is good, and someone will fill any void. This early in post-Jobs Apple, it's greatest challenge still looks to be within.

If Apple was able to counter Samsung on technology alone they wouldn't have gone to court.

For once, the copy is better than the original.

Just got done hooking up my all new Samsung all-in-one desktop. It's awesome!! Lightning fast, space saving design, and whisper quiet. Never buying a Dell again!

$1B settlement is chump chain to them.
