So far, the only basketball player in history to be named NBA MVP, win an NBA championship title, and win an Olympic gold medal in the same year is Michael Jordan, in 1992. In 2008, Kobe Bryant had the chance to become the second: he was the MVP, and played on the US team, who won gold that year; but the Lakers lost the Finals, so he fell short. This year, LeBron James is set to become the second: he is MVP for 2011-2012, won his first NBA championship title this year, and the US is competing for gold on Sunday. Pretty impressive.

Probably not. I just remember thinking what an opportunity was missed four years ago when the Lakers lost to the Celtics, and I'm surprised just four years later LeBron is poised to make it happen. Being a Lakers fan, I would have been happier were it Kobe, but I can still appreciate LeBron's accomplishment (assuming it happens).

In terms of that specific record (MVP,WC,and gold medal) yes that is impressive. But LeBron will need to get some more rings on his fingers then we can talk.

On a side note: Guess who's the newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers?

And now it's history. I missed a category. As stated by the AP, LeBron James "joined Michael Jordan as the only players to win the NBA title, regular-season MVP, NBA Finals MVP and Olympic gold." Congrats, LeBron, and all of Team USA.

With that said, here's hoping the new Lakers configuration kicks the Heat's butt up and down the court at next year's Finals. :D

Presumptuous Lakers fans (yes, I realize that's redundant) seem to be forgetting how much better the OKC Thunder were this past season. Honestly, it wasn't even close. It's debatable whether head-case Howard and old-man Nash are enough to close the gap between the Thunder and the Lakers . . . especially when you consider that Kevin Durant (the 2nd best player on the planet) continues to up his game by exponential leaps and bounds.

Their playoff series was a lot closer than youre making it out to be.

The Lakers were a very good team with a few major holes, point guard and bench being the obvious ones. Put "old man" Nash (who had an incredible last season btw) in the PG slot, and bolster the bench with Jamison and Meeks.

Oh, and add the best center in basketball to the team too..
