We are weeks away from the first FWD BMW !

I don't care if this might be the best FWD ever and you can call me old school but this against everything BMW stands for. First, no more 6-cylinder engines, now this !

HERESY :guns: :guns: :guns: :poke:

Read all about it here: http://www.bmwblog.com/2012/08/06/weeks-away-from-bmws-first-front-wheel-drive-vehicle/

 Jeez that's a hideous looking thing! And FWD!?! I think Breitling's current designers have been moonlighting at BMW! Just terrible......

Well, there is the Mini Cooper. The VW Golf sedan already exists and looks better. Just seems wrong, and I don't care if it's in response to MB---actually, I don't like them doing it either. Does this mean that the 1 series will become FWD?

BTW, I did have a new 328 service loaner last week. Much better than I thought. So much more mid-range power than the prior 328, enough to make me happy. Not giving up my 135 anytime soon, but there's plenty of power. Also, when I took it with 3K miles, average mpg on the computer was 33.8. I did a mix of heavy acceleration and putting in on eco mode, where the engine stops at a stoplight, and returned it with still 33.8 mpg. More comfortable than the prior model IMO, better backseat, didn't seem too slippery on the OEM Pirellis. I was impressed.

Now that BMW had presented some really superbly designed cars with the new F10/F11 5 and the F30/F31 3 series, they're really spoiling the whole thing. Of course, design is purely subjective of whether is beautiful or not. Still....

However, what bothers me the most is not the design but that FWD thing. Sure CO2 emissions must have been an influence and they surely are responsible for the dissapearence of the 6-cylinder engines. But a FWD ? Don't get me wrong, on the engineering side it might be the best FWD there is. But for me that thing ain't a BMW and it will never be.

I hope they will deeply regret it as they did for the Rover affair.

That would be an insult to Ford. The new ST is actually kind of cool looking.

Well, I didn't want to start yet another BMW thread, so here are the latest news:

BMW is making 3-cylinder engines for its cars but 6-cylinder engines for its bikes:

http://www.bmwblog.com/2012/08/14/bmwblog-ride-review-k1600gt-superbike-in-a-fat-suit/

If someone is getting this, thank you for explaining. Or is it that the Greens have struck once again ?
