In a word - sucks! Thursday I reached for my laptop which was sitting on a two foot high table next to my usual sitting spot. It tipped and landed square on the side, but on carpet. Now I've dropped this before from much higher heights, but this made an odd thud. Hard drive busted. I took it to my IT guy's house Thursday night and opted for a Samsung solid state hard drive, which means I won't have it until Monday night or Tuesday, but it will be lightning fast. Living by iPhone is not the same. Ok, so I have a PC in the loft but that means walking upstairs and sitting at an office chair. Sniff, sniff. Thank you for letting me whine.

Makes it hard to get work done with no computer... what.. wait?!! You've still got a desktop AND an iPhone! :-P

Well atleast you'll have more time to enjoy your watch collection, and the new SSD will be quicker :)

I am known for my impatience - no surprise here. When I heard how fast it will be, I opted to wait a couple days.

My office-issue Dell with solid state is night and day faster than anything I've had home or office. Definitely worth it.

What, no iPad :?: My iPad has replaced my laptop for 99% of the work. My laptop stays at home now for road trips. The iPad goes everywhere with me.

Me too. iPad unless I'm working on Coreldraw.

Recently (finally) bought an eye-fi sd card, and now my watch pics download automatically from the camera straight to the iPad for quick edit with Snapseed & upload to photobucket or FB.

+1 for the Ipad
Macbook Air gets little to no usage at home and none when travelling

That really sucks, especially if you're used to and depend on it. I know you're an apple user but you may want to consider the Samsung tablet. You'll feel the difference.

A nice bonus is that the solid state drive won't bust if you drop it again.

Ive got an ssd in mine. Boots to windows in under 10 seconds. Its crazy fast. Unfortunately, im having a speaker issue, so ill probably have to be without it for warranty repairs. Im not sure what ill do either.

On a side note, if your IT guy takes 5 days to install an SSD, he's either CRAZY busy, or just lazt. Its about an hour job, and that includes cloning the hard drive. Since your HD is dead, its a 15 minute hardware job + whatever windows takes to install.

Can these SSD upgrades be done to any lap top?

Windows in 10 seconds? I'm down with that!

He had to order it - he is a private small operation but used to do the entire office I worked at - over 400 workstations etc... Knows his shit and doesn't rip me off. And it was a late Thursday night so it didn't ship until Monday. It was worth the wait - lightning fast. I never used to turn the damn thing off because I'm too impatient, but now it's almost like turning a TV on or off. Windows boots fast and when it goes to your desktop it's just there and ready to go. And it doesn't get hot.

Any recent laptop, for sure. Regular laptops take a standard SSD, and newer ultrabooks might take the slim model (7mm). Literally takes a few minutes to swap the drive.

Shipping time explains it.

My laptop is a beast now. I literally toss it around (onto soft surfaces) like a g-shock. No moving parts, and its fast as shit.
