Post subject:  DSLR Camera's

I am ready to move from point and shoot to DSLR. I have done some research on the web and see so many brands and models. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a starter DSLR? I don't want to spend a fortune as I am not to sure how deep my new interest in photography is. What about lenses? I know some come with and some don't. What lens size should I be looking for? Do all the camera's that come with lenses have the same size. So many questions. Any info you guys could offer would be great. :?

Check out http://www.broadwayphoto.com/ go to digital camera and there you can sort by price, manufacturer etc. I've bought from them before, and found them to have a huge selection and great prices.

Check out the Nikon D80 and the Canon 40D. Stick with original lenses and look into the great package deals with lenses etc.

You can go in either direction from the cameras I listed above, you can spend a great deal more or a great deal less depending on your budget or photography needs.

This topic gets discussed regularly on here. 90% recommend Nikon or Canon. You can't go wrong with either.

I recently asked the exact same question and since then I opted for the Olympus E510. It's been voted best entry model DSLR and in my opinion, rightly so!! There is no doubt that Canon and Nikon are top of the range but, at least here in Ireland; their accessories are top of the range prices also. It's my first DSLR and like you I'm not so sure how far my new interest will develop. I decided on this model because of a number of reasons. Price, Value for money, and prices of additional lens/equipment are all very reasonable. Some might argue it's a little small or not as advanced but to counter-act that statement, I would say the image quality is exeptional, it has very user friendly menus and its pretty straight forward to use. I have mine for about a month now and my friend has a Canon 450d, great camera also but the images from both are identical. Also, the E510 has image stability built into the camera body itself, not the lens; which makes the lenses for this model a little more wallet friendly. Also the live view feature is great for landscapes. Works just like a point and shoot. Like i said, i only have mine a month but it is proving to be a wonderful piece of kit. I love it and would recommend it highly as a first DSLR. Whatever you choose to go with, let us know and enjoy what is a wonderful and limitless hobby. Remember, proper lighting and correct settings are prob more important than the kit you are using. Enjoy and post some pics when you get the chance!! :)

Hope you find my post of some use

Oh, for watch shots; its worth investing in a tripod and a macro lens

Enjoy,

Ken

Post subject:  The Canon 40D is a great camera

I did a lot of reserch recently before deciding on my first DSLR camera, a Canon 40D. There was some great other deals on Canon Rebels and the Nikon was a close 2nd. I ended up getting my Canon thru Costco.com for just under $1000 including a 2GB memory card and both 70mm and 300mm lenses. It is a great package to start with. I wanted to get something I could grow into. A great bag is the Lowepro sling bag which I recently saw on the shelf at Costco. It is a good smaller sling bag. I actually got a backpack style and I kind of regret it. It is big and bulky and I don't take it to as many events as I do my auto 10 megapix camera just for convienance. Good luck.

I own a Canon 40D. I couldn't be more happy with it. It is a BIG improvement since the 20D and even 30D. Besides having a bigger LCD display and coming with a very versitile stock lense (the 35-125mm with image stabilizer), it has better focus points, smarter features.

I'm not sure who 'beginner' DLSR it is though. You are looking at spending a bit over a grand for brand new. The full potential is seen through the manual operation of the camera. I would suggest getting the Canon Rebel XTi. There is a new Rebel XS so you might be able to get a nice deal on XTi slightly used. You can still get all the lenses available for 40D on it (even find the stock lense from 40D for cheap and use it with Rebel). It is a great beginner DSLR for the right price ( I think new is under 1k)

I hope this article is useful for you.

I was in the same position last month. I ended up with Cannon Digital Rebel XSI after weeks of reading various reviews.
