As regular members here will know I was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few weeks ago, but I missed this year's Bonham's Car Auction that always takes place at the FOS.
Just read today that British watchmaker George Daniels' collection of 7 cars and 2 motorbikes went under the hammer. The star of his collection was the ex-Sir Henry Birkin 1929-32 Bentley 4½-Litre Supercharged Single-Seater, a car that (according to the FOS website) "set the Brooklands Outer Circuit Lap Record at more than 137mph in 1931". Apparently they also sold a Rolls Royce for just over £4m which is another world record for a Roller to be sold at auction.
In all, over £22m worth of bids were placed at the auction this year.
Who said we were in a recession!
