Quick question for the UK members - are there any good general gift vouchers available in the UK for things like restaurants, day trips, vacations, etc. I am trying to buy some for my sister and was going to go with Virgin vouchers but it would appear that they don't want my money - can't order online because the order size is too high and can't order over the phone because they refuse to accept a non UK credit card (apparently no one told them that we are in the 21st century).

So any alternatives? Want to avoid Thomas Cook because that doesn't sound like a very secure company these days!

Is she cute? Send me the money and I'll take her to dinner...

Alternatively, I'm not sure that there are many (non store specific) gift vouchers these days. Unless you can buy something specific (which it seems you've tried), you might have to send cash (Paypal or similar) with an instruction to your sister to take herself out to dinner or whatever.

None that I can think of, other than ones for a specific shopping centre. Blue water, Trafford centre, Westfield etc.

Why not just get a prepaid credit card?

I've no experience of them but a Google search shows several companies who do vouchers which can be redeemed at multiple outlets.

Thanks Sharkmouth - I had seen them, just no idea what they are like - I thought Virgin would be a safe bet given the company but wasn't really prepared for an inability to use a non UK credit card. I'm sure they would take my card in a megastore!
