ORDER OF THE SPUR Know ye that WO Charles "Baseball" VanAllen With carbine and saber in hand having followed the guidon to the very frontier of the free world and having demonstrated the skill, fitness,dash and cunning of a United States Calvary Officer,defeating his enemy in the jungles of Vietnam during 16th day of May 1968 and is awarded "Calvary Spurs" Charles C. VanAllen, Warrant Officer 1st Class, died 16 May 1968, flying his first combat mission. He was my class-mate and my best buddy.Remember his name for just one day. He wore silver wings upon his chest.. |
