My latest thing I have been doing is trying various extreme hot sauces. Heat intensity is measured in scoville units, a jalapeno pepper is about 2500 scovilles. So far I tried two: Daves Insanity (180,000 scovilles) and Blairs Ultra Death with Jersey Flair (1,100,000 scovilles!!!!). The Blairs hotsauce at first was not horrible, Dave's you feel the burn in your mouth right away.....with Blair's give it about 2 minutes, then...........it gets horrible. Both have warning labels on them, you literally use one drop, I dilute it in a milder hot sauce. If you look on youtube you can see videos of people challenging themselves with trying various extreme hot sauces. |

"Blairs Ultra Death with Jersey Flair" sounds beastly. What do you put it on? I enjoy a good burn now and again ![]() |

It definitely doesn't make the flavor any good, you really don't taste the flavor. I workout often, so I eat a lot of protein. I mix regular hotsauce with one drop (literally, just one drop) of the Blairs and eat that - the intensity is incredible, one drop is good, adding more will ruin the taste, because all you will feel is heat. I wonder if there are side effects to something like that. |

I like Dave's insanity but prefer their Ghost Pepper sauce. That's a sneaky one, no heat at first but gradually builds up. I now use the Dave's sauces pretty much like you would ketchup. Haven't tried anything as hot as that Blairs sauce however. |

I've tried "Da Bomb : The Final Answer" which apparently comes in at 1.5m scovilles, and that was.....'eyewatering' to say the least. ![]() TBH, when I say I tried it, it wasn't through choice! A mate of mine used to like buying stupidly hot chilli sauce and taking it down the pub with him. There he'd do one of two things with it - he'd either challenge random people (usually semi-drunk lads) to try a single drop that he'd put on their finger. Now obviously seeing their reaction when eating it was funny enough, but my mate used to be particularly amused when their eyes started watering as a result, and being semi-drunk it never occurs to people to SERIOUSLY wash their hands after touching chilli, so when they wipe their watering eyes they then get chilli in them.... so making it a million times worse. Worse still is when then visit the gents! And we can all imagine the pain involved there! ![]() ![]() However, I wasn't going to fall for that one, so he got me with his other chilli trick - namely if you leave your pint for a couple of mins for whatever reason, he liked to smear a drop round the rim of your pint-glass, and also add a drop to the beer. You would not believe how little of this stuff you need! Absolute killer, and a waste of a perfectly good pint! He stopped doing it after we got him back a few times, so an amnesty was called, that's still in place today! ![]() |

Hmmm... interesting... thanks for the pic NR... so just curious the base pepper that make up these sauces are habanero? I know that the habanero was the reigning champ until some other pepper came along... something that had to be handled with gloves I've heard... ![]() |

I went in NYC to a restaurant, Brick Lane, and had phaal - when they cook it they wear gas masks. They have a "Phaal Challenge", if you can eat the entire dish you get a free Indian beer and your name on the website. I tried a shotglass worth of it, it's HORRIBLE (as in very unenjoyable)...but, I wouldn't say as bad as the hot sauce in the pic. My colleague was able to eat the entire thing (he's from Guyana though, grew up on that). You should try Dave's Insanity first, then once you can handle it go to Blair's. |
