with apologies to roff whos gonna moved this to its rightful place, i was hoping if anyone can explain why a seller would need a reference when doing a private transaction. some insist on "strong references".... if youve got the funds before you ship, why would a seller insist on this?

i did try googling but i cant seem to narrow the search phrase enough to get any meaningful hits.

thanks.

If Paypal and/or credit cards are involved there are some scams out there that involve claims of receiving everything from a bad fake to a rock. Then charge backs come into play.

ive wondered about disputes like that... how do they reach a decision as to who is at fault? its all he said she said. how does anyone provide proof that they sent/received what is being claimed? scary with a high ticket item....

Hence asking for references. PP usually seems to side with the buyer.

Last time i sold a watch using PP i filmed (in one take) me holding the watch, showing that serial numbers matched certificates, putting it in all of it's Breitling boxes and then inside the postage package, all inside the post office and then paying. It was about the best insurance i could get.

Hey...Any one remember where to find that video of the guy opening the box with the rock inside?
You could clearly see where he had cut the bottom out.
That would be a good link..I think..
