So in September (I know it's a ways way)... I am flying my wife to Chicago for a convention I will be attending for work. I figured since she has never been and I speak so highly of the city this would be a good time for her to come out. So what my plan is on the 3rd day during a nice dinner, tell her that tomorrow morning we are flying to Las Vegas (another place she has never been) for 4 days and this would be my 1 year anniversary gift to her. So I'm trying to plan this whole thing sometime soon and I wanted to get some peoples suggestions on what to do or where to stay. Being its her first time, I would like to stay near the strip where the excitement is.

I have been to the hard rock, Mandalay bay, and mirage....but where else is good? How about aria or vdara?

Also I am thinking To do circus de soleil

Any ideas would be appreciated

Mrc

Hands down Bellagio!!!! Get a room that over looks the fountains, you won't be disappointed. They also have an incredible buffet...yes just about all the food is great out there but there's just something about the Bellagio buffet that is extra awesome.

I think Jersey Boys is still playing at the Palazzo, great show and a great hotel.

Bellagio by a wide margin. Wynn second. Everything else is fungible, kitschy, and far behind in my HUMBLE opinion.

You can try the Wynn too... beautiful hotel... or the Venetian... or the Palazzo... gees so many choices... my last stay was at The Hotel @ Mandalay Bay... a tad off the strip but nothing a short cabride can't solve. Definitely as Serge suggested, she needs to see the fountains... either from a room or at nighttime... one of the most amazing things I've seen... and it's free.

For a great steak, I would suggest Stripsteak at Mandalay Bay... some good meat over there or Auerole, which should be about next door. Their 4 story wine tower is sublime. If you don't mind a little commotion and a drink, try the Ghost Bar at the Palms... one of the best views of the strip in Vegas IMO. In adding to the buffet suggestion, the seafood buffet at Rio is pretty sweet too. Can you say all you can eat lobsters and oysters?

For the shows, so far I've seen "O" at the Bellagio, "Love" at the Mirage, even Elton John at the Caesars awhile back. Pretty much all of the shows are produced by Cirque. They got a monopoly out there, but all of them worthwhile.

Then there's shopping... pretty much any of these hotels you go to they're going to have something. Caesars, Wynn, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio... if you like outlet malls Like I do, drive a bit off the strip
on the I-15 or tell the cab guy to take you guys to the Las Vegas Premium Outlets. Some decent
stuff there. If I think of anything else, I'll post it up.

For steak I like McCormick & Schmidt between the MGM and Venetian.

The Venetian is great. And steaks are awesome at Sam's Town Steakhouse.

Lots of great hotels, but for an indulgent treat get an hour long (or longer) massage at the Luxor. Arrive early; even if you are not a guest of the hotel you can use the spa before and after your massage. They have a great work out facility and three pools ranging from ice cold to almost too hot to get into. My wife and I have massages all over the place and these people know how to do it right. Send her off by herself if you are not into that sort of thing and go buy a watch.

I like Mandalay Bay, it is down a bit...but that gets you away if you want it. Easy enough to get right in the mix of things. MBay always has great live music in the lounge right in the middle of the casino. I saw Ziggy Marley for free!

I always suggest the Bellagio..it's just tough to beat. It's also very centrally located so you can walk around to the other hotels and activities. Palazzo is a close second. Their standard rooms are huge and easy to live in for a few days.

I really have liked the Palazzo/Venetian over multiple stays, the rooms are great. Wynn, too. As suggested earlier, Auriole at Mandalay Bay is a great meal, and we had another excellent (and expensive) meal at Paris in the Eiffiel tower restaurant, the view of the Bellagio fountains is great.
One place that is easy, cheap, and fun to check out is the auto collection at Imperial Palace - stop by the card signup booth on the way through, it's either free or you get a discount, and you have to walk buy it to get to the collection anyway. They usually have some interesting stuff, and just about all of it is for sale.
Stuff off the strip - Hoover Dam, Mt. Charleston, Valley of Fire park.

I think right now I have to decide whether or not its worth it to spend the extra $500+ on something like Wynn or bellagio. The whole point of this is to have a lil sightseeing getaway and not so much a vacation. We would be spending 90% of our time out and about (shows, eating etc...) so for this particular trip there I'm not to sure if bellagio is the way to go. I could stay at the hard rock which I stayed at last times and thought it was descent and fun and get much more outa my money with activities with my savings. Hmmmmmm :?

Well The good news is i have some time to think about this 8)

I am headed to LV the end of the month - part business, part meeting with some old friends that will involve drunkeness and debauchery undoubtably. The biz part we are at Palazzo, the other is at Paris - it's only about $100/night on Friday and Saturday night, not as nice as Palazzo or Bellagio, but nice,

Planet Hollywood is decent... Paris is nice... MGM is great... all of them on a nice budget. Probably 100-150 around there. The Wynn, Bellagio, Palazzo, etc can easily get to high roller status...

I was also looking at aria and vdara.... Seems more reasonable.

If I was vacationing for a week or so, I'd splurge a bit. But since 90% of my time will be out of the room... I just can't justify spending $250/night.
