Post subject:  Problems with connecting to the forum

Has anyone else been getting problems accessing the forum from time to time recently? It starts by hanging really badly and then I get this message -

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

I've been getting it both at home and at work.....

Yup - been happening a lot over the last couple of weeks.

A bit frustrating but sticking with it as I enjoy the forum so much.

Same here. Sometimes straight in, sometimes hanging then crashing out.
Better over the last day or so.

Haven't seen the critical error as much, but I've still found the site slow over the last couple of days.

That happens to me every now and then, and sometimes I also get the "unable to connect to website" but going back in the browser resolves that.

Another thing - I've found a way of going around the problems while logging in (having to log in several times and all messages are marked as read) - I go to one of the topics and clicks on "post reply". Then I get to log in before replying and it works as a charm every time.

Finally - is there a way to control the Google Ads in the bottom of each page? I find it quite insulting to get "Best Breitling Replicas on the net" in my face, especially on this forum...

The problem is that the MySQL server on which the database of this forum is located goes AWOL. So basically it is the fault of the hosting company on which BS is located.

Moving to phpBB 3.0.O would be a disaster IMO under the current circumstances.
PhpBB 3.0 has a much bigger load on Mysql server then the current version of the forum

I fear you could be right. It sounds more like a hardware issue (likely running out of resources) - I can't believe that mySQL itself is the real problem.
