Post subject:  Setting the stage and other photo help

Based on the many well done photos some of you people post on here, it is evident that you have a talent, knowledge, and experience that many of us don't possess. This is quite evident by the clean crisp macro and wider angle shots you have wowed us with :wowzers , not too mention your choices of backdrops and lighting are just awesome. I for one envy your talent and ability to do this.

To that end would some of you more talented folks please share some helpful hints, suggestions, and instruction with some of us lesser talented folks? Especially in regard to equipment, camera settings, lighting, focus, etc you recommend. Also of help would be how do you determine setting the stage and props, what is the best lighting to provide true and clean shots, and use of tripods vs holding in hand. Any and all advice would be most welcome, so please share with us if you will. :camera:

Richard - I asked a similar question awhile ago and got no responses. I just use a Nikon DSLR camera with as much natural light as possible. My photos aren't very good but they work for me.

Roff, thanks for that buddy! Some good info on that link that will help all of us looking to take quality shots of our widgets. Of course if anyone else has anything to add I'm always open to learn more. :D

I think this is a great topic. I'd love to hear what people like Frank and Ron have to say.

When i do manage to take 'ok' pics, I'm quite a lazy sanpper to be honest.
Just leave my Nikon DSLR on auto. Sometimes I set it to macro and turn the flash off whilst its mounted to a tripod. I prefer natural daylight but sometimes I use a light tent setup after dark.

...and apart from a long exposure for lume shots, I don't fiddle with the other settings....
