Anyone own one? Curious about thoughts.

It's ok. Really cool when you are watching a movie that was originally filmed in 3d.

I don't use the 3D feature often, but I don't regret buying a 3D capable TV.

I noticed a difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz...but do you notice any difference when watching regular TV in 3D? I know that the TV I get has to be 120 Hz, I could see a clear difference.

We own a LG 55 inch LED 3D set and a Sony 3D player We own about 70 % of the 3D catalogue we enjoy the TV and when we have guests over they usually pick a 3D movie to watch .

We picked the LG because of the Passive glasses ,you don't need to charge them and every time we go to the theatre and watch a 3D movie we bring home the real D glasses which work great and are cheap to replace not like the active ones that can cost a $100.00 or more each. We have had ours for 4 months

IMO it's an alright technology, but nothing AMAZING.. if you are going to buy a 3d tv and want to make the most of it make sure you buy a set with passive glasses and also get content which was filmed with 3d in mind, not just a 2d to 3d conversion. Personally I find it a bit gimmicky but each to their own 8)

+1

I have a Panasonic 58" (which replaced my Pioneer 50"). I bought it because it was the best 2D at the time. Good for about the 1st 20 minutes then I'm done. Image is also darker & should watch in dark room. Light coming in from the sides are a real distraction. In my mind 3D is just a gimmick. If you do get as mentioned above, get content originally filmed in 3D.

And keep in mind how much 2d content you watch because a lot of 3d sets are a bit lacking in the 2nd department... I suggest a demo of the set you want to purchase prior to buying is a good idea also :D

I bought a new 50" TV a few months back and after demo-ing a number of sets (including a few 3D options) I went with a top quality 2D one. With the exception of Avatar I've been pretty much non-plussed with 3D movies, even in the cinema, so the idea of sitting in my lounge with a daft-looking pair of specs on, not really enjoying the effect, makes the whole 3D TV thing redundant for me.

:yeahthat

Plus, the price tag is too high for what it is supposed to offer... or will offer, when more films will eventually become available.

Huh !!! My 3D has a fantastic picture in 2d and is awesome in 3D we own at least 75 movies . As far as price goes we paid $1600.00 for a 55 inch LED 3D with a excellent wood and glass stand and a Sony blue ray (3D) player and was given a LG home theatre in a box ( that will be an excellent X Mas present for 1 or our kids. That really was not expensive at all. The following day after we bought this the sale was over and the TV cost $1800.00 by its self.

Totally agree, Driver. I too went with a top of the range 2D, I'd rather have a decent surround sound setup than 3D and day of the week, far more immersive.

Why not have both?

Post subject:  Re: 3D TV's

Nothing stopping someone having both, but if I was in the market for a brand new tv i'd buy a top of the range 2d tv + spend decent money on surround. I believe the investment in a good surround sound setup is far more important than any investment into 3D.
