Yes, I know, another one.

But, it is notorious that Jeremy Clarkson doesn't particularly like BMWs. However, this time, he praises not one but two Bimmers in his new "Powered-Up" DVD, the 1 M as the Most Fun Car to Drive and 535d Touring as The Car of the Year 2001. So, I thought it was worth mentioning. He even placed the former ahead of cars like the McLaren or the Ferrari FF.

@preimel - That is insanity at it's best. At least the first dealer flat out calls it the FUintheA fee instead of hiding behind "Market Value."

The one caught my eye in magazines when I was shopping for a new car a couple of months ago, looks great. Beyond my reach though - I believe list price here is upwards of $110k.

The supposed attraction is that they are only going to build the 1M one year. Still, for the money, I'm totally happy with my 135.

I saw a 1M at the weekend for the first time. A laugh it may be but for that money I'll take an E63 AMG or two yr old CL65/SL65 AMG...

I wasn't aware of that. But if that's the case then I suppose they can charge whatever they want for it. I mean look at the GTR. When that car first came out they were selling for $20k - $30k over sticker.

It also helps that this car is just amazing. A 1 series with better drivetrain and a V8 power plant . I saw one in person at Devon Hill BMW in the copper color, and let me just say pictures don't do this car justice.

With that being said, I don't think I would dish out $90k for it. But because of limited production if you want one, I suppose you gotta pay to play.

My boss always says "a car is only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it."

You "work" with cars every day. Do any ever grab you emotionally vs. logically? In other words are you ever willing to pay more than you think it's worth?

Cars are a weakness for me me. I always buy high & sell low...sigh!

This is the dealer you're talking about: http://jalopnik.com/5816234/bmw-dealer- ... n-1m-coupe

If I was customer of his, not only would I denounce the case at BMW in Munich (assuming that they're not already aware of the situation) but I would boycott him. Also, based on his thinking, I would ask him a $ 40'000 rebate on a stock 1 series that he can't sell and that sits on his premises for more than a while.

I really cannot understand the customer who will endorse a policy like this

Having said that, I know that BMW imposes on his dealers the sale of at least 3 "normal" 1 series before they have the "right" to be allocated one 1M.

You're comparing apples with oranges. The possible equivalent to the E63 AMG is the F10 M5. Until Alpina gets its hand on the beast that is because AMG is not "really" Mercedes.

Also, the price of an E63 AMG is almost the double of that of the 1M at $91'500. So, you take an E63 and I can have one 1M in Valencia orange and one in Jet Black but with different interiors. Isn't the way we do it with Breitlings? Same model but with different faces and/or straps.

Also, the 1M will be a limited production, so like all LEs price is higher. Same thing happened with the M3 GTR and more so with the M3 GTS priced at $115'000 which sold almost before they were produced.

Unfortunately my profession makes me hate cars . Once you have driven enough card, all their faults become more evident.

There are a lot of cars I like, but very few I would invest my own money in.

As of right now I would say the Maseratti Gran Turismo is possibly my favorite. Not because it's a good car, but the exact opposite. The car isn't the fastest, but sounds great and looks gorgeous IMO. But the best part about it is that the car is just wild. It doesn't want to drive in a straight line. The tires chirp between gear changes, and the car will get sideways around every turn if you apply any throttle. It's like a wild animal you are constantly trying to tame.
It's also not too expensive where you wouldn't want to drive it. Overall considering price, that's probably my favorite. It's not a track car, and it's not a drivers car... It's just an animal, and that's why I love it.

They used to be for me too..... and yes I always bought high and sold low as well  .

Unfortunately (or maybe it should actually be fortunately!) I don't have as much disposable at the moment.... hence I waste, sorry, "spend" less on cars at these days. (Yes I'm still driving my fairly foul 320d M Sport. )

I bought my wife a 135i convertible in Cashmere with a red Dakota leather interior 6 speed manual and then had a Dinnan done to it to bring the horse power up over 400 It has the M package and 18 " wheels
( now the M package and the M1 are different cars) But .

This car just kicks A_ _ I have driven it almost as much as my wife and The zero to 100 time just makes me smile when entering the freeway and you get these guys who don't want you to get in front of them one second your beside them and they speed up ya stomp the gas and your going mach 8 and are 700 yards ahead of them ,and you know there saying WTF was that ? LOL I love this little car. Tons of fun.

My brother-in-law has an 135i with the Schnitzer chip (340HP instead of the regular 306). He thought that for the money you have to pay in difference, no big deal between 360 (355 in the US) and 340HP. He changed his mind when he test drove the 1M.

Because the 1M is not only about 360HP, it's how the whole car is set and feels. It was designed from the beginning as a go-kart.

@supertaz1 I know the feeling you're describing and it is the best in the world. 8) Especially when the "opponent" drives a Porsche or a Nissan GTR.
