This won't make much sense to those who don't play or listen to cricket but Peter Roebuck, one time captain of Somerset and cricket writer/ broadcaster has been found dead in South Africa. I'm not sure which newspapers carried his column in England, but here in Australia he had a massive following in print and on the radio. I thought he was fantastic. Vale Peter Roebuck.

Yes, he certainly had an impact on Cricket and was very passionate about the game. I think the most important thing is the loss of his life and the impact on Cricket. Sad time for his relatives, cricket and for ABC Sport Commentary. Many countries that play Cricket will also feel the loss. He was a champion of the sports development in countries that might be struggling. A great loss.

Its great that some first class cricketers go onto broadcasting, and if they can make a difference like Peter obviously did, then they certainly add a richness to the game that is so worthwhile.
