I see some interesting screen-names and often wonder how they originated. Mine is just my initials. |

I'm pretty sure there's another thread on here somewhere about this, but it was a while back so I guess a new one won't hurt...... Mine came about due to two reasons - Firstly, apart from watches I also love cars (specifically BMW's), so a screen-name to do with driving seemed ideal. And secondly, I'm a huge R.E.M. fan and "Driver 8" is one of there song titles, so even though that song is actually about a train driver, it still seemed appropriate. |

Short answer - the name of my company, long answer - it's Latin for 'person of Roffa', Roffa being the Roman name for the city in England where I went to school (Rochester). Former pupils of the school are known as 'Old Roffensians'. |

Just a mix of my initials. It was actually my login at a company that was my first real job...it just kinda stuck with me over the years. |

Mine is like Roff's; a product of where I'm from. I live in Newcastle (in Australia, not England). Locals are Novacastrians. |

Mine is the short form of my regular avatar name "H2Finally" which comes about when I finally got my H2 which became my favorite daily driver & gave my family and I some of our best memories off the beaten path for many years... ![]() |

That is correct, there were two such threads: one in 2007: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1311&hilit=nickname and one in 2009: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9605&hilit=nickname There was also one for the signature: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=32282&p=238190&hilit=what%27s+in+your+name#p238190 Always interesting to go a while back. |

My love for aviation - and for an exceptional aircraft, the Grumman F-14, better known as the Tomcat. It replaced Sharkmouth's beloved F-4. The F-14D, or Super Tomcat, was the last and best performing "cat" ever made by Grumman. Hence, my choice of the sexiest fighter, IMHO, ever made and retired from active duty in September 2006. As a friend of mine used to say (now passed away): I'll give up smoking, I'll give up drinking, I'll give up my job, I'll give up my wife and the in-laws to fly in one. As a tribute to the Tomcat, here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17786 you can see my especially decorated flight jacket from patches of most squadrons (many of them disbanded now) that used the Tomcat. PS As I have found, "F-14" or "Tomcat" are widely used usernames across the web but nobody, so far, has gone to the detail of specifying which version of the F-14. ![]() |
