I've been invited to a christening for the grandson of the guitarist of a band I'm in. (http://www.cheesepuffdeathsquad.com/) I'm sure nothing is expected but what's the convention regarding presents? I've never been to one since my godchildren 20 odd years ago! I was thinking of a 2011 £5 coin. Am I on the right lines or would that be thought cheapskate? Or is it more for the parents rather than a keepsake for the child? Some friends I've asked have suggested charm bracelets but that's more for girls and this is for a boy. Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome! Here's a pic of the little darling - I've bit my lip over the team dad is wanting him to support! ![]() |

Poor kid doesn't stand a chance ![]() I think 'back in the day' premium bonds were a common gift (do they still do them????), but I think that the coin is along the right lines. It should be more for the kid than the parents and if you are 'just' a regular guest you don't want to go overboard and show up others who are on paper closer to the family. |

Usually cash. The parents can put it into a savings account for the kid. |

I would get him a clothing item. At this age, they're always welcome. You might want to get it for a lad 2 or 3 months than he actually is because he might already have some his age. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'd had got some Premium Bonds but the minimum is £100 so I think the cash option will give mum and dad the freedom to get what the kid needs. Might have to get him an MUFC babygrow though, just to stir things up! ![]() |

Very hard to pick a present that will be really appreccated I know it will be for the child but it will be the parents that will really be getting it. I tend to go with RX on the cash thing and maybe a token thing got to do with dads band. First guitar? Either way enjoy the day. I know all about it as my son is getting christened this Sunday with 50 going to the meal afters ![]() |
