Wanted to upgrade from my SonyEricsson which seems to be left a bit behind. I was considering those two options, so any opinions or first hand experience will be appreciated. On the pluses for Samsung the larger screen, better camera, more free applications and longer lasting battery among others, I've been told. It is also lighter and thinner. |

it really gets down to your choice between Android and iOS. Had iPhones for as long as they exist and love the seamless OS integration and easy upgrades, tried the Nexus II and the Galaxy, both nice, but in the end iOS and the incredible build quality of the iPhone 4 made me remain with Apple. Also bear in mind there probably will be a new iPhone shortly (September or October, apparently) that will again push Apple ahead on the hardware side (the camera on the iPhone 4 might be weaker than the one on the galaxy II specwise, but real world results are superior on the current iPhone 4). Another factor is Googles acquisition of Motorala. Even if they are now saying otherwise, future Android enhancements might be available on the Motorolas first before they - if ever - trickle down to other hardware platforms, one of the reasons probably why Samsung is hedging its bets and keeps Baidu alive and also manufactures Windows Mobile versions. |

Thanks Fred. And yes, an i-phone 5 is expected soon. However, I also heard that Apple is trying to block sales of the Samsung Galaxy in Europe and Australia on the grounds that many features were "copied" from the i-phone. Would they do that if the Galaxy was inferior? Or do they sense a danger? |

Apple has been surprisingly complacement regarding copyright infringements for some time, you might have heard about the Apple shops in China, now they are apparently hiring 100+ copyright specialists in China alone. I did not say the Galaxy was inferior, it is a beautiful piece of high end technology, this is a very personal choice for the "build feeling" of the iPhone 4 and the security of the iOS platform, just like guys asking whether to go for a Navitimer or an SA. The main difference is the OS and the Apps, Apple offers a closed; protected environment that works perfectly, many resent this and opt for the more open Android platform, but here Apps seldom make use of the latest and greatest hardware and OS developments, as there is a huge base of older phones out there with old OS versions and many vendors are only publishing updates late (if ever, like Sony Ericsson for the Xperias). |

I have the iPhone and love it. The best thing about it, and apple products in general, is that it's intuitive to use. Also, with the iPhone you can use 1 device as your phone and iPod. As stated above, I'd wait for the iPhone 5. |

I am a long time user of the iPhone / iPad and my suggestion to people is to try one and see if you can put it down. My iPhone has integrated into my work / personal life mostly seamlessly (not to say that the Samsung wouldn't) I would go for the iPhone 5. |

I just changed from Droid to iPhone and really find the iPhone even more intuitive than the quite intuitive Android. What I like most is Apple must have a deal with Verizon and other providers that they can't root a bunch of bullshit apps. Compared to my Droid Incredible or my daughter's DroidX, the iPhone was almost barren. I could add a few well chosen apps from a seemingly limitless selection to get just what I wanted. And the absence of all that provider loaded crap which no one uses improves battery life. I'll never be one of those guys snaking in line at the store when a new iPhone model hits, but am confident I will stick with iPhone. |

Thanks guys for your input. I knew that most of you are using iPhones rather than Samsung, so I was expecting most of your answers. But, since I'm not really familiar with either I just wanted some insider's views and opinions. I've also been asking around at several POS. Although most of the salesmen were using iPhones, a majority praised the Samsung model. Advantages of the Samsung over the iPhone4 ('cause the 5 is expected no sooner than November here) include: - feather weight for a phone this size (only 105g) - durability of the battery [depending on the use, every 48 or more (most iPhone users must recharge it at least once a day, something my daughter is experiencing as well with her i-Touch)] - larger overall screen - better luminosity of the screen, especially at exposed to the sun environments - quickest response of the applications -quickest response of any modifications applied - dual-core "heart" - no need of downloading i-tunes, drag-and-drop suffices for keeping your data, music, videos etc updated, so much quicker and free of charge (especially for the music) - no Apple style bugs Any more opinions will be much appreciated. Thanks again. |

boogiebot wrote: what happend to all the loyal crackberry fans? am i the only one left? I had a crackberry. I loved it. It was my lifeline. Then I got an iPhone and realized that the crackberry was a useless piece of junk. I don't remember how I conducted business away from the office pre-iPhone, perhaps it's my minds way of protecting itself, but I could not imagine doing it now without my mini-computer. The only way I will give up my iPhone will be when someone pries it from my cold dead hands. ![]() |
