Any of the guyz in here have any good routines, eating habits etc etc for helping me get back into a decent condition and getting my fitness and build up again??

I'm a routine kinda guy but never really taken much advice. I've always been fit and gone to the gym since I was around 20. I'm 35 now and have kind of gotten out of any kind of routine in the last 4 or 5 year. I've had spurts of going to the gym every few months but struggle to keep going(putting that down to age)!

Any help or advice would be great.

If you have shower facilities at your job, you might want to concider riding a bik to work.

I go one way Monday through Thursday, an am losing weight steadily.

Also: make an effort to cut way back on sugar and carbohydrates, and eat more proteins and vegetables.

As said before just cut back on carbs, eat more protein that should help you shed fat and start building muscle with a gym routine. Try not to consume more than 50g of carbs at any one mealtime. Eat little and often (about 5-6 times daily) to keep you metabolism up.
Cycling to work is a good starter depending on how far you live from work. If the gym does not work for you, try a sport. See if you can find a likeminded friend to do it with you so it will be more sociable and not as much of a "chore"

Thanks guyz, good advice there but probably stuff I know. I don't cycle but I do have a running machine. I'm looking for is something specific towards a healthy eating routine that would help build back some muscle and some decent training routines. As said I've been or had been a regular gym goer for years but didn't really need to watch what I ate as I had a fast metabolism but obviously that slowing down now. I'm not unfit by any means but just need some advice from someone experienced. I have bought several mens fitness magazines but they all tell you different things!

Yeah the mags can contradict each other, I think muscle and fitness is probably one of the best. Just get one of them to flick through.
If you have been before you know the ropes haha
I have the same issue with eating what I want now I have hit the big 30! I guess its no more battered mars bars for you eh :P

I eat TONS of junk food - actually, just got home from work and put chicken nuggets in the oven, for lunch I had Indian buffet with lots of rice pudding, love ice cream also. I work out about 2 hours a day though. I think I'm doing okay.

I'm fortunate that there is a gym in the building where I work.

Nr123, you look great. But when I was your age, just sneezing gives me 6-pack :lol:.

At 40, getting in shape is much more challenging. Andrew, I find one of those pre-work-out supplements like Jack'd help me get over the "man, I can't do another rep...!" mentality in the gym. I only do 45min 3x a week, so it's gotta be intense. Regular workout will maintain your metabolism. No special diet other than avoid unnecessary sugars: eg. use Equal for coffee, coke zero if you must have soda, fruits for dessert, cheesecake once a month, etc. I don't drink, so don't have to worry about sugars from alcohol.

Edit: training routine, I'd concentrate on big muscle groups like lat pulldown, bench press, squats if your back can handle it. You won't get nice cuts, but you'll be strong & fit.

Cheers nr123 but H2F is correct at your age I was eating everything under the sun and could easily look quite lean but when you hit 30-35 eating starts playing a big factor, trust me! :D

Thanks! I'm 31 now, after the cruise I'm going to start eating healthier. I'm sure that although it may have no affect now, it's just like swimming with a Navitimer - eventually something will go wrong.

I thought you were quite a bit younger than 31! Muscle needs to be fed and with the amount you have its no wonder you eat like a horse and it doesn't have much impact! :D

I thought you're in your twenties! Are you married? If not I wouldn't worry abt your diet since it (and the 2hr daily workouts) obviously works for you. Otherwise, I do find that marriage seems to be the most common trigger for when things start to grow sideways :lol:

Approaching 50, I lost over 50lb (200+ > 150) over 2 years on a low carb diet and gentle exercise.

My only advice is start slowly and gradually build up. Don't go mad from day 1.

Try crossfit if it's available in your area! Hands down the best workouts you'll ever get! You will never get bored like going to the monotonous gym!! The workouts are short, tough and are always different! Always a positive, competetive atmosphere that will motivate you to push yourself further and further to acheive your goals and then some!!

I check out that site pretty often for new workouts, nutrition and also as motivation. There's great articles written by fitness instructors/trainers and the forum is very active and full of information too. Worth a check.
